Sadly, I played "Rapture" on a jukebox in a bar once about 10 years ago and nobody knew who that was. I can't imagine how it would go over now.

/Still have a crush on her

She kept saying that someday she's gonna get me, but she never did.

/Maybe next week

63, holy shiat. She was one of the first mainstream rappers. Painful. Even mmore painful than regular rap.

I just saw her Saturday night at Summerfest. She still rocks!

In 1978 I was 12 years old.

Debbie made it move. Still does, as a matter of fact.

She made it OK to be blond and beautiful.

Control_this:She made it OK to be blond and beautiful.

Yeah, because up until then, blondes were persecuted and the brunettes were getting a free ride.

That's what I thought too. Which is why I skipped their show when they came to Gainesville in 1979 (I think that was the year).

And I also thought the opening act was pop posing as punk too. Too bad I missed the show, because I ended up liking The Police.

It's worth seeking out the original version of this song -- by the Nerves, with Peter Case on bass.

Phil McKraken 2008-07-01 02:18:15 PM
Great voice, too.

So it's too late for a Videodrome sequel?

/see ya in Pittsburgh?

NYZooMan; who ever said Blondie was a punk band? no posing, just being who they were.

jicon 2008-07-01 04:42:32 PM
I just never got her appeal. Fairly lousy singer. Anyway, here is a version better than Blondie or The Nerves... from an unlikely source.

Ahh, yes, "Happy Birthday" Fark links.

You know the submitters just go to the Wikipedia "Born Today" page every day, finds people who Farkers would know and submits as many links as possible to get greens.

/like Debbie Harry, though

Couldn't find the raw stuff from '76, Youtube must've pulled it.

//hated "rapture"
///admired the guts to bring rap into mainstream.

Rickenbacker 2008-07-01 11:04:04 PM
Ah, Blondie before Rapture, The Tide Is High (WTF was that anyway?). Great band. Clem Burke is a criminally underrated drummer. And looky at Chris Stein with his Rick 450!

/Loves my '69 Rick 450
