(Kotaku) Cool A massive dose of The Who is coming to Rock Band, a mostly best-of soundtrack since the masters for "Who's Next" cannot be located. Drum parts are rumored to be quasi-impossible, even on easy mode   (kotaku.com) divider line 87

drum parts are just impossible to repeat. because to do it the first time properly, you need some explosives.

Yeah, they don't plug in right. It's like...they were made for different things...

And you know, harder to just pick up and have a good party game with.

"Their music really comes alive when you're playing it," said Rigopulos.

Farking-A it does. It's as close to being John Entwistle as I ever will be. It's a hell of a lot of fun and it gives me a much deeper respect for those guys.

I just might go out and buy a bass guitar because of this game. I never would have before playing it. So piss off.

That is the only benefit I see in these games so I'll give you a pass. I've played it once and it is just as difficult as learning the real thing. I'm sick of people saying "I'll never be able to play a real instrument so I play Rock Band". Barring physical limitations anyone can play an instrument and personally I think EVERYONE should have some musical training. And FYI I prefer to Piss On... your mom

Well, they may not be real instruments, but they are cheaper and it is a new way for people to experience/interact with music. The Rock Band DLC model is something the record companies should be taking very seriously.

Damn.

FWIW, that keyboard part is sequenced, so you're not supposed to be able to play it by hand live.

Most of Keith's "fills" are much longer than that. That looks like merely the introduction to a bar-and-a-half of thrashing around like an octopus on speed.

If you can coordinate your hands on that level you should have no problem learning how to play guitar. And I'd like to think I am a little of both.

Gee, another "look at me I play guitar for real and you are all losers" poster in a Rock Band thread.

I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and I've been in a couple bands but I find Rock Band and Guitar Hero to be a blast.

They are video games and they are fun. And since buying Rock Band I've been thinking about taking drum lessons since I finished the expert career on drums and found out how fun drums really are.

The best story I ever heard about Keith Moon was the time he bought a mansion in Holly Wood right next door to Steve McQueen who, at that time was the biggest movie star in the world. Every morning Keith would dress up as a Nazi prison guard and march back and forth in front of McQueen's house.

I don't know the exact year but it was a mid seventies reissue of a 67 I believe. Didn't have the P-90's though which was a drag. I sold it a couple of years ago. Full on Hi watts the whole way. They even bought me guitars to smash during My Gen. I had a half torn hamstring when that first picture was taken. Very painful. You'll also notice that my head is tilted to one side. I was literally an inch or too from the ceiling. I'm surprised I didn't wack my head at all that night.

Something about you saying real instruments are just as easy to play and also being in a punk band. I haven't worked out the details yet.

/+1 for the band name which I assume is The Whooligans.

I agree for the same reason. It's really cool to see the kids jump up and down to rock and roll songs instead of just whatever junk is in the top 40.

This is good news. I really enjoy The Who. The even bigger news today is that there will be a Rock Band 2 coming out in September. It will be released on the 360 at least two or three weeks before other consoles. (I am not a console fanboy. I have a 360...PS3...and a Wii...Oh yeah and a girlfriend so STFU ha)

The new version will have 80+ on disk songs and all DLC is to be useable on both versions of RB. That is current and future DLC.

You're absolutely wrong. I beat Guitar Hero 1, 2, 80's, 3 and Rock Band on Expert Guitar within 2 days of buying them (all at launch). The only songs I didn't beat immediately were Jordan and Through the Fire and The Flames... those took a couple weeks.

However, Rock Band Expert Drums took me a month or so to beat all the songs on the disc.

So yeah, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be half as good at real Drums or Real Guitar in the amount of time it took me to get beat all the games. Especially since if I were playing a real instrument I'd probably be practicing a hell of a lot more than I play these games.

TedAlsoRises 2008-06-30 05:21:31 PM
Can you see the real me? Can ya?

Actually I can see this bringing some families together: Father buys son the game, and they both rock out. After beating Bargain on Hard they high five. Awesome!

My father introduced me to the Who (on Vinyl), told me both he and my Mom were at the same concert before they eventually met, and basically informed me that, at one point in time, before he became a white collar, soccer coaching Dad, he was in fact quite cool. I didn't believe him until I hit high school, and everyone thought Baba O'Riley was the greatest song ever. I then introduced everyone to Tommy and Quadrophenia. Good times.
