Why does George Bush hate Zimbabweans?

Why haven't we killed this guy yet? Oh that's right, we can't even kill Castro.

This guy makes Hugo Chavez look like Ghandi.

He even makes Bush look competent.

Getting beaten up by an 84 year old sucks even more than one might at first imagine.

He's only hurting his own people. One dead in the country next door and we'll be after him, but we don't care what dictators do in their own back yard.

So when do we go get their oil?

Here's the problem: Osama Bin Laden's in Zimbabwe, which instantly sends Zimbabwe to the bottom of the Republican itinerary. After all, the best way to be "tough on terror" is letting terrorists get away with it!

It kinda pisses me off that the ANC is putting up with this shiat.

Likewise. The discussion was held at Chez Atomic just this morning that Z-land would look far different were oil in the equation.

When I see stuff like this happening worldwide, I'm glad the Bill of Rights is in place here.

When I used to live in London, I attended several university classes with Robert Mugabe. He wasn't nearly as extroverted back then. We used to call him Gobbie as a nickname and he was a real practical joker. I'll never forget this one time he talked us into taking the Deans horse and putting it into his office. He tried to make it take a shiat by firing a gun close to its head, Unfortunately the horse had a coronary and died on the spot. We all ran back to our rooms and that was the last time I saw Gobbie.

good times.

The policy of the US has been for a long time that assassinations against government officials is forbidden. I'm not sure when that started, though.

BudTheSpud 2008-06-29 07:15:22 PM
Like I said in the last Zimbabwe thread, theres pretty much nothing that can be done except to push for sanctions. Any sort of assassination or coup, or even an invasion or peacekeeping attempt would be seen by the rabid Mugabe supporters and military leaders as an act of aggression by the "White Man" or seen as a return of Apartheid and would probably tear the country apart.

You have to be naieve to think they havent considered these things and not ruled them out by now.

What if we reinstated segregation in the army...no, no, no, take your hand away from your face and see where I'm going with this...using purely voluntary troops and send all black units ala Tuskeegee Airmen, the Buffalo Soldiers, Triple Nickle and so on. No unpleasant reminders of past colonialism. No white vs black animosity.

They'd be greeted as liberators...oh wait, now you can put your hand over your face.

And actually, had we not already decided on taking out Saddam and working on stabilizing the region, we very well might have done our part to ourst Mugabe. When the time is right, I believe we can expect some notable activity. Until then, don't think these kinds of concerns have gone un-noted.

Sharkface217:When I see stuff like this happening worldwide, I'm glad the Bill of Rights is in place here.

If people aren't taught to respect and value their freedoms, then no matter what or where those freedoms are written they'll cease to exist in short order. The government isn't an unchanging rock, it is made of people and as the people go, so does government.

Would I get in trouble on Fark if I called for the assassination of Mugabe?

The guy at the end of the thread 2008-06-29 08:31:12 PM
The way I see it, it's all about perspective.

As the visionary developer of the reverse-apartheid system of agriculture-based economics, Mugabe has successfully maintained his position of power in the face of an otherwise uncontested electorial defeat.

Plus, he's a total badass when it comes to starving off his own citizens and ensuring that his nation will remain the text-book deffinition of a 3rd-world failed state.

See, life's always better when you look at things from a different angle.

Well, although I think that kind of plan might work, I also think there is a risk that most of the Mugabe supporters would just scream they are puppets of the West, and brainwashed by Whitey or something like that. Don't underestimate their insanity.

Jimmy Carter.

Specifically, Executive Order 11905, in '76 -- outlawing political assassination by employees of the US Government. Later adjustments in subsequent EOs by Carter and Reagan.

It's a president's perogative to unilaterally amend or rescind it as desired, although Congress can add prohibitions of its own. It's not really considered 'political assassination' to go after a commander-in-chief during an actual war, either... not that war with Zimbabwe looks remotely likely.

So you are all upset when we oust one evil dictator who killed thousands of his own people but want blood when we won't kill another. Where is the EU? Where is China? Where is India? The US is kind of tied up at the minute.

Mugabe needs to die at the hands of the BAFH (Bastard Admiral From Hell)...

Senator: So let me get this straight, Admiral... You're saying your pilots have no idea how they ended up over southern Africa rather than southern Iraq?
Admiral: No, it was a tragic mistake.
Senator: And neither of the pilots thought to look at the plane's compass and realize they were going the wrong way?
Pilots: Our compass was broken; It's a real shame we don't have enough money for proper maintainence.
Senator: Did you ever notice that the ground was mostly green & brown rather than sand?
Pilots: We can't see down during flight.
Senator: Neither of you ever noticed the position of the sun and realized you were headed westward rather than east?
Pilots: We rely on our instrumentation, it's supposed to be very reliable.
Senator: No one on an entire goddamn carrier realized that a plane was headed the opposite of the direction it was supposed to be after launch and called it back?
Admiral: At the time we were experiencing a short-term problem in our radio system.
Senator: Which just happened to occur at the same time a dozen witnesses say you opened the radio systems control panel...
Admiral: Yes, to try and reset the system so we could call them back!
Senator: And then shorted it out by dropping a screwdriver into the high-voltage circuits...
Senator: Do you realize what the penalty will be for this?

At this point, I got out my crackberry and sent a picture to the head chairman on the committee.

Senator #2: This meeting is adjourned; No charges will be pressed.

Apparently, he had an amazingly crappy time at that reception in Germany. How his hotel room ended up with pinhole cameras that recorded the entire 3-hour orgy is anyone's guess. Maybe they should ask my cousin Simon from IT...

/No this isn't remotely plausible
//That's not what the BOFH is about

PinkBunniesareEdible 2008-06-30 06:08:54 AM
In other news, Mugabe won 85% of the votes, or 100% of zimbabwe's population as of today...

Tellurianix 2008-06-30 08:46:25 AM
233,000 voted against him despite everything. I'll raise a glass to all of them.

Billygoat Gruff 2008-06-30 09:49:50 AM
We should have sent Jimmy Carter in there, he knows a fair election when he sees one, just ask Hugo Chavez
