(Fox News) Spiffy In 2007 a crack commando unit infiltrated the Iranian underground. Today they still pursue targets and pass money to opposition groups. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the (US)A-Team   (foxnews.com) divider line 36

But then one of them got shot while administering First Aid in the truck as they were speeding away. It was shocking.

Then they canceled the series .

The best news is Israel has been right there in Iraq with us since we went into Iraq. The US and Israel support, train and pay Kurdish and Iranian rebel groups intent on attacking Turkey, Iraq and Iran.

Lovely. Part of the reason Iran has such poor infrastructure on their oil is Israeli and American raids inside Iran.

Hold your teenagers tight. We are going in, since we are already in there.

BAD. Just want to let everyone know.

We can classify them as a terrorist organization, but if we do something like TFA says we're doing, (Did not RTFA) then we are basically setting up for Iran or others to do the same to us *without losing the moral high ground*. It may be like Iran-Contra.

FTA: the $400 million funding for the escalation, which includes gathering intelligence about Iran's suspected nuclear weapons program, was approved.

Is it so Cheney/Bush can expose more covert agents working on nuclear proliferation?

I'm more worried about Iran classifying American soldiers as a "terrorist organization" like we did to their revolutionary guard, and capturing soldiers from Iraq and detaining them indefinitely...

Wonderful! Two wars isn't enough for true patriots! The Founding Fathers set this Christian nation forth on the true path with their act of defiance against the tyrannical British Empire, leading the world by example into liberty and justice for all believers of the one true way. Those that will not bend must be broken; not until all the sands of the Middle East run red with the blood of our foes can we declare the Crusade of Freedom complete.

And how many more "discussions" like this do we need to know that Iran is next™. We can at least get them to stop threatening the region, and yes, both China and Russia are counting on us to do it. It's up to them: they can either bottle up that idiot in office, or yes, the United States and Israel is going to teach them a lesson. This is not "another Iraq," "another Vietnam" and whoever tries to sell it as such should probably be watched.

Befuddled 2008-06-29 08:30:55 PM
Bush is far and away the worst President ever, his popularity is the lowest of any President and he's a lame duck yet he still gets everything he wants. It's nice to know that the Democrats in Congress are doing so much.

How, exactly, is Iran threatening the region? If you are referring to Ahmadinejad's bellicose statements toward Israel, you do realise that is all hot air, don't you? His presidency is largely ceremonial, and he carries no influence on Iranian foreign policy.

Rather, the USA is the great destabilising force in the region. If Hersh is correct - and I see no reason why he wouldn't be - then this article offers further proof of the Yanks' negative influence on the Middle East.

Hah, yes it's our fault.

The middle east has been a basin of peace and happiness through all time before the USA came along. The Muslim people live by the motto peace be to all men and the Shiite's and Sunnites live side by side in harmony. They treat all men and women fairly and consider murder and killing to be one of the greatest sins.

Ghastly [TotalFark] 2008-06-29 08:57:54 PM
Well if nothing else it would be great if they teach the muslims how to fire 100000 rounds of ammunition and still not be able to hit a thing.

Not too sure if I like the idea of them being able to build a completely operational tank out of the contents of a garden shed.

So, we're committing acts of war (with no declaration of war by Congress) against yet another non-hostile nation. And then when they retaliate we'll claim that they started it. We, as a nation, are Godwinning ourselves... we are the next Nazi Germany.

There will be no draft, because the minute there is, support for ANY military outside of a national guard evaporates. In fact, I think you might be surprised at the anger and vengeance that 30 years of only-volunteer army would do to the rest of us that would never enlist, or on our families, who would also never enlist.

The people willing to support corrupt politicians' wars in this country have been propping up the whole military/industrial complex. You call it patriotic, we duly wave our flags and cheer and promise not to call you dumbasses to your face very often, particularly since most of you would probably attack physically if we did.

The minute a draft goes in for the petty BS that most of you are willing to go fight and die for .. thats when the gloves come off on protests as well.

There are nowhere near enough police and paramilitary in this country to contain everyone who would be motivated to actually put in an anti-war effort if required to do so. And the right wing knows it.

Face it, you like being the ones 'willing to die for your country' more than you like being smart about the asshats you blindly follow.

Try to imagine the outrage if it were reported the Iranian Special Forces had captured several of our soldiers in Iraq and were interrogating them secretly without any Geneva convention rights, probably under torture.

Just sayin'.

I wonder if any of the idiots that didn't RTFA have blamed Foxnews for this story instead of the actual source, the New Yorker Magazine. *scrolls up*

Yup.

togolosh 2008-06-29 10:00:25 PM
The groups receiving US support include Salafist/Wahhabi Islamists different from Al Qaeda only in their focus on the "near enemy" (corrupt middle eastern regimes) as opposed to the "far enemy" (the USA and Europe). These groups have engaged in bombings of civilian targets within Iran - terrorism by any non-insane definition.

Have we learned nothing from the Afghan war? Don't give money and weapons to Islamist wackjobs. Write it down. Remember it. Islamist wackjobs BAD.

paulseta [TotalFark] 2008-06-29 11:32:50 PM
There must be a reason that this has been reported. It seems that there has been a massive upturn in the last few days of general Iran "chatter" in the mainstream media.

You DO know that the U.S government can, in fact, stop a paper from reporting something if it's a matter of National Security(tm)?

They *want* Iran to sweat. It's psyops 101.

Not only that, we also harbor terrorists. We are still allowing that farker from Argentina(?) that knocked down the Cuban passenger plane. We really aren't anti-terrorist, we are just anti-terrorist if the victims are Americans.
