I've been pleasantly surprised by the Orioles so far. I've learned not to get my hopes up too high as it's not too late for a mid season collapse.

Well, the Cubs are on track to win the NL pennant and then lose to the Red Sox in the World Series.

101 years. Book it? Done?

braves have been a big disappointment, but the phils went on a retarded binge the last couple weeks so we are still in it. if chipper can stay healthy and our pitching can come through a little better (hudson), we might make some noise in the east before its all over. but probably not. i would say something about mike hampton but i just dont f*cking care anymore. you are dead to me, mike.

I was very happy with the D'backs start, now I am in normal D'back fan mode: "at least they are over 500!"

Not unexpectedly, my little Astros are struggling just to be mediocre.

Yes, the Giants have been surprisingly good this year when I expected a historically bad season.

The Phils have sucked the last few weeks, but damn, it is nice to be in first. And so strange. I'm just not used to it. To have a bull pen that has been fantastic most of the season is strange too. Especially having a closer who can deliver save after save. Strange.

My Liver Hurts 2008-06-29 12:19:51 PM
I've got to admit - I'm pretty shocked that the Nationals made it to the halfway marker above .300.

gunsmack [TotalFark] 2008-06-29 12:20:28 PM
The Pirates were flirting with .500 for a while. This is nothing short of amazing.

I'm a mets fan. I think its safe to say it is pretty much impossible for them to do ANYTHING, aside from have a normal season, that would surprise me.

Hell, they could decide to drop out of the MLB and become a cricket team at this point, and I would just think, "Yea, should have seen that one coming".

GO VIKINGS!

I love how under Zygi the team has been willing to throw big cash at the very best free agents (Hutchinson, Allen trade).

The Pirates - Orioles series in Baltimore was also nothing short of amazing. I was there for the first 2 games (Friday and Saturday) and I can't remember a time in recent memory where Birdland was completely.filled.up the way it was for the Friday game. Lots of fans came out for both teams, and the game play was spectacular, with several lead changes in each game. Good times, good times.

I know Mariners fans should be sitting it out, but I'm actually happy with how the season has gone. Yeah yeah, worst team in baseball, but the driving force behind that (GM Bill Bavasi) is finally gone, we've got a new coach, and hopefully we'll start unloading the festering pile of crap we call our line up. Ichiro and Felix, thats all we need. Go Seahawks!

I feel for the fans of certain teams.. did i see a Pirates fan? a Nats fan? Damn.. sorry man. On the other hand, I commend you for being a true fan and not jumping ship because times are tough.
I'd also buy you a beer.

I'd also like to thank the L.A Angels for throwing a no-hitter last night.. and losing.
what the hell!

With one of the cheapest payrolls in baseball, the Marlins are actually contending for a Wild Card. And we all know what happens when the Marlins get a Wild Card.

Being a Red Sox fan, I'm enjoying these years when I can be smug and gloat like Yankee fans did for so many years.

Good luck Cubs, good luck.

RobbieFal 2008-06-29 12:50:38 PM
The Royals have been very good in June, and very lousy in May.

So their true performance is something in-between.

Also, Trey Hillman needs to stop playing Ross Gload so damn much.

My Liver Hurts: I've got to admit - I'm pretty shocked that the Nationals made it to the halfway marker above .300.

Definitely.

I was, for the longest time, a rabid Yankees fan. However, when the Expos moved to Washington, giving baseball to DC (again), I all but stopped watching Yankees games and became a rabid Nationals fan.

You know what's great about being a Nats fan? I can set low expectations and still be entertained by baseball. ;) And their new stadium rocks.

The Pirates are vying for .500 and I've been pretty impressed with the offense as of late. I don't need a playoff run, just don't want a 15th consecutive losing season.

My Yankees have been running on fumes the last few years, and it looks like we've finally reached the bottom of the tank. Pitching is our Achilles' heel, and there's no way we overtake the Rays for the Wild Card using guys like Giese or Sidney "Where's the buffet?" Ponson in the rotation. Matsui's injured, Jeter can't be bothered to make an effort for groundballs not immediately in front of him, and we don't have a set-up man now that Joba has been forced into starting duty, though Cano is finally starting to hit a little bit after spending most of the season hovering around the Mendoza Line, and Giambi is rocking a powerful porn 'stache.

It's almost painful rooting for this team sometimes. And to get the Red Sox/Yankees stuff out of the way, I don't hate the Sox, I hate their jackass fans.

culebra 2008-06-29 12:57:30 PM
Well, Oakland has surprised many but I predicted a second-place finish during spring so I guess I'm not exactly taken aback. They've managed to stay healthy enough to contend and barring a sudden miracle in Texas that results in decent pitching the A's will be right in there vying for the Wild Card.

Now, anyone want Joe Blanton? I heard he can eat like ten pies in a sitting. That's probably his best stat.

I've been pleasantly surprised by my Cardinals. We were being picked to finish 5th across the board, and we've managed to hang in there somehow. I'm not sure how we can keep it up, but it's starting to feel a little like 2006. Nothing would make me happier than winning the Wild Card and having the possibility of a Cubs/Cards NLCS.

Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?
