Both parties are responsible for high fuel prices, as well as many other factors such as the dollar's devaluation and China's purposeful misrepresenting the value of their currency.

Environmentalists are Democrats...so, yeah....

Democrats consistently oppose drilling for more oil and building refineries.

Duh...

Well, it's better than "Vote Christain - Vote republican."

I'm also noticing weird traces of idiocy leaking from Florida across the Gulf of Mexico into Texas. Or is that just me?

If there's one thing Republicans are good at, its projecting their own failures and shortcomings, e.g.

Blame Democrats for high gas prices!
They are fiscally irresponsible!
Liberals want to take all your freedoms!
Obama's wife is a racist!

Ace Frehley's Ghost 2008-06-29 10:18:33 AM
Wow, that's sad. Even aside from the sentiment, when the sloganeering is that pathetic, we're looking at a massacre.

Bush's war and market speculation is responsible for high gas prices.

Rovian 2008-06-29 10:26:25 AM
It's Bush's economic policies that have killed the value of the dollar. In 3 years the price of oil in dollars has tripled. In Euros, the price has only doubled. What is the republican plan to combat the falling value of the American dollar? We're waiting.

3_Butt_Cheeks: Both parties are responsible for high fuel prices, as well as many other factors such as the dollar's devaluation and China's purposeful misrepresenting the value of their currency.

How can you blame the dollar devaluation on the Democrats when the Feds are printing money as fast as they can? Who decided to no longer release the M3 figures? And China tying their currency to the dollar is a bad thing?

WHAT?

Crude: Environmentalists are Democrats...so, yeah....

Do you believe that if we drilled every hole in this country that might produce oil the price of gas would go down? Are you really that uneducated as to how it all works?

Come on, tell me that was a troll.

And by the way, if you want to make a comment on that article you can email some guy named Aman Batheja - which sounds like a terrorist to me.

another slice of rising oil prices, in here

War Beyond the Federal Budget," written testimony for the Joint Economic Committee, February 28, 2008.

Mugato [TotalFark] 2008-06-29 10:33:05 AM
That doesn't even make any sense. Bush was in office for the last 8 years and if they're talking about congress, gas prices were rising before they got their tiny majority.

I believe many factor contribute to this mess. The American consumer and the willingness to go into such debt without means or a plan to get out of the red. American mortgage debt accumulation of the past 6 years equals the combined mortgage debt accumulation of the previous half century.

The outlook investors have for the future of the market.
The United States, the world's record debtor, is at a massive relative disadvantage to the nations of the world which have a stronger productive base due to marketable exports. ie : We import more than we export.

A (R) President and a (D) congress have done little to fix these issues.

If you believe this was unintentional, read Ben Bernanke's thesis where he talks about hyperinflation as being our friend and even makes the claim that we would be able to nullify our national debt if our currency crashed.

More oil drilled here in the US would go right into the global market, and would only drop prices by a few cents. By around 2025...

Republicans had plenty of time to deal with the speculation market, and did nothing. Unless half the oil drills stopped working in the last few years, the supply chain is not the reason why prices are so high.

which wouldn't change anything at the pump. the oil companies have seen that we'll pay $4+ for gas. they're not going to change that now.

besides, it's not a supply-and-demand issue anymore. supply is up. demand is down.

no, prices are high because of (1) speculation, (2) a weak dollar, and (3) tensions in the middle east.

Ahhh, FarkWorld- where every problem is because of environmentalists and unions.

Why is it the 26%ers are so much louder and stupider than the rest of America? I guess it's because crazy/stupid people both have lots of energy, and plenty of time since they can't hold down a job. Being stupid and crazy. And 7 or 8 alts.

How does any of that relate to the devaluation of the dollar? Did I miss something?

3_Butt_Cheeks: The outlook investors have for the future of the market.

It's their job to predict where the market is going - and almost uniformly we are going down. A few of the contacts I have in Europe believe that we will see another 18 months or so of steep decline and they are not investing in anything here.

3_Butt_Cheeks: The United States, the world's record debtor, is at a massive relative disadvantage to the nations of the world which have a stronger productive base due to marketable exports. ie : We import more than we export.

We do, but that doesn't necessarily impact the value of the dollar either. If our country is, for example, making the world's best software and selling it by the shipload, we don't really need to be "manufacturing anything "tangible" and in fact it is probably in our best interest to allow manufacturing to happen elsewhere. This is only an example, and a poor one at that - but you get the point.

3_Butt_Cheeks: A (R) President and a (D) congress have done little to fix these issues.

Kind of a stretch to blame the Democrats after they have only been in marginal control of congress for about a year and a half. What's worse is that really can't get any legislation passed that the president won't veto so the blame goes right back to the Republicans on this one.

Its going to be like that in November. If Obama wins, they will lambaste him with EVERY fault in the country, blaming him for everything that has happened in the past 8 years.

If McCain wins, they will blame everything on Congress because of them, everything couldn't be rubberstamped like before.

I agree with most of this sentiment, but I want them to keep some seats.

The democrats aren't republican, but they are politicians. If they have no real opposition, do you really think they won't screw us over?

bush has proven quite skilled at making decisions which tend to diminish the nation. The republican legislature helped him until a couple of years ago. He's still having his way with our future, but he isn't as successful at the moment.

To me, the best situation is a democrat in the white house, and a slightly republican congress. Let the democrats keep congress this time to get us out of Iraq, then bring on the gridlock.

. Republicans aren't responsible for draconian environmental policies that restrict energy producers' abilities to bring affordable energy to market.

/would YOU want to build a refinery if it was prohibitively expensive, and you ran the risk of local laws changing with the way the wind blows?
