Why's this asinine? Isn't it the same things politicians do with tax money?

Republican fund-raiser? Color me surprised.

It is an outrage that patrons aren't getting the politicians they pay for.

OK. This sounds like a company that knows how to make the most of the money available while fleecing a candidate. If this is the case, why the hell would ANY candidate use them? It shows the lack of fiscal sense needed in a public office.

Mugato [TotalFark] 2008-06-29 10:36:33 AM
At least the democrats would spend it on adult female hookers.

Because math is hard!

So, some of it wasn't wasted, then.

FTA: Charles A. Morse, a conservative Republican gadfly from Brookline

Gadfly? Does anyone really still use that term?

Logweasel 2008-06-29 12:55:16 PM
For anyone unfamiliar with Chuck Morse, he's basically Milton Waddams. He's spent the last several years trying to reinvent himself as a conservative radio host on tiny local AM stations.

priestrape 2008-06-29 12:55:33 PM
"Goff Smith, a retiree living in Winnetka, Ill., who gives generously to conservative causes around the country, said he knew nothing of Morse's noncandidacy in the fall of 2006. He donated $500 on Oct. 5 and another $1,000 on Oct. 17, a month after the primary in which Morse fell short.

""Why the hell would I do that?" said Smith when asked if he would have contributed if he knew Morse's name was not on the ballot or that he all but abandoned his candidacy. "That was a waste of time and money. I think I got sucked in on that one."

this is the base of the party of fiscal responsibility. Jesus.

My thoughts exactly.

Judging from the complete lack of party identification, I assume this must be a fundraiser for a Democrat

... ...

Wow, color me wrong.

Still, if Congress spent 95% of the national budget on whores and drugs, this country might function a tad bit better.

Seems to be a lot of that going around. It's hard to understand how these guys think they'll get away with it.

Satanic_Hamster 2008-06-29 01:46:30 PM
Part of me thinks these people should go to jail.

The other part of me thanks them for taking money away from idiot Republican right wingers that would otherwise be spent to actually help their screwball causes.

I need to check which party was fundraising before I know whether I am outraged by these shenanigans or defend them.

The guy actually thought he was going to unseat Frank??? Goooood luck.

I get messed with my wingers from outside Massachusetts off and on, usually because of Frank and Ted Kennedy. I support them, and then claim not to be a "liberal", and it drives them nuts. The thing people don't really understand about Frank and Ted Kennedy is this. Both of them deliver for their constituency.

Ted Kennedy historically has brought more money and more jobs into Massachusetts than anyone else, probably ever. Frank is a really, really good, fix-the-potholes politician besides the other activisty stuff he concerns himself with. He represents my neighboring town. Their parks are always beautiful and well-kept, property taxes are reasonable, and the roads are silky smooth.

But, you know, try telling that to someone whose worldview is shaped by WorldNetDaily and Newsmax... It's why I laugh when I leave the state and see all these places with crumbling infrastructures - *but*, their State Rep. believes in outlawing abortion and makes speeches about it! So that seems to be all that matters.

My primary problem with the conservatives is this: if you really disbelieve in our government that much, then you don't deserve power in it, because you're not going to handle it responsibly. You're going to try to fix your ideological hackles where they don't necessarily belong. Stock my library, fix the sewers, then talk to me about your grand designs.

So you're saying they cling to their guns and religious beliefs?

Are they bitter?

I don't think this is so much of a political issue as it is a fund raising issue. This goes on constantly. Typically, when you get a call at home from the telemarketers asking you to save the starving homeless police dogs with cancer, they are from a fundraising firm. Fundraiser gets most of the money and a small percentage goes to the charity that let them use their name/cause. A fundraising company decided to specialize in political donations instead of the Fraternal Order of Police.

It would be great if they had to disclose their company ties and percentage of donation kept when soliciting funds. "Hello, I'm Bob from Cheatem Fund Raising Inc calling on behalf of the American Cancer Society. 10% of your donation will be forwarded to the charity. We keep 90%."

Did anyone else notice the picture/caption mismatch on the right? See the highlighted section below. If you can't read it on your monitor, the caption says "Check out the new and upcoming hybrids"
