Give the guy a break... he probably forgot about the seventh one altogether. We all know how hard it is to keep track of all our stuff, right?

Any man that owns 7 homes should not be collecting social security.

I bet if he asked nicely enough, he'd get Obama to give him $2,300.

Well, at least we know that McCain succeeds at economics in Dubya's book.

At least he isn't some sort of latte drinking, Birkenstock wearing elitist or something. He's just one of us.

I was a die-hard McCain supporter just moments ago, but after reading that, I now fully support Obama. I mean, this is the kind of thing that changes your mind about a candidate!

1) McCain doesn't own those houses. His wife does. Their finances are separate.
2) The taxes have been paid by her, there's no problem any more.
3) The post office unfortunately was unable to correctly deliver this mail.

If anything, the county looks worse since they can't seem to correctly mail bills to the trust that owns the house in La Jolla.

If I knew the URL of the "Real McCain/Fark headline McCain" pic, i'd post it, but it's pretty much true here.

When Obama doesn't pay parking tickets for 15+ years, it's shrugged off. But when this happens, you blame it directly on McCain. Double standard much?

Etchy333 [TotalFark] 2008-06-28 11:58:35 PM
McCainpoon: Double standard much?

I agree that this is a non-story, but...

Obama paid $375 in parking fines to Harvard. Something tells me that $375 is not much to a school that costs $100K a year.

Property taxes pay for schools, roads, etc. It's easy to forget about parking tickets. It's not that easy to forget that when you own property that you have to pay taxes on said property.

So this everyman is married to money? Didn't the right take pot shots galore at Kerry for the exact same thing?

That's a great cartoon, but he's right on this one. Being the lifelong Democrat he obviously is, McCainpoon has a curiously encyclopedic knowledge of all the dirt that's being flung at Democrats and loves to spread it.

AverageJoe77: So this everyman is married to money?

You don't just marry someone for money and have it last for 28 years. There's obvious love there too.

Teresa Heinz Kerry was the one person with worse media savvy than Michelle Obama. I voted for John Kerry, but Teresa was a gaffe machine.

There are complicated tax things at work here. If they were to have their finances combine, then i'm pretty sure they pay more, and McCain would be under more scrutiny.

Dukakis wasn't exactly one of our best. I'm old enough to remember McGovern too. I'd put all three of them on the same level of wimpiness.

Some of the minor party candidates have been real winners as well.

Hell, I'd put them ABOVE Mccain on wimpinees. but McCain is just massive fail on every level

- He is completely senile and rountinely can't remember his own positions or basic facts about issues at hand

- He is completely without substance. Obama is light on substance, but McCain's fart between two pieces of whitebread act makes Obama look like a 5 course italian meal

- He has zero principles. He has flip-flopped on every core principle that was supposed to define him (fighting religious right, being a "maverick," not supporting tax cuts during war time, etc.)

- He has no sense of humor.

- He is more gaffe prone than Kerry, Dukakis and Dole combined.

- His entire platform is continuing braindead policies of a failed president. He offers NOTHING new of his own.

- He doesn't even have a decent moral background. he abandoned his faithful wife because she wasn't hot enough anymore so he could marry a wealth bear heiress

I could go on and on.

Any one of those things would make him a pretty sad man, but you add them all up and he is the biggest load of FAIL the US has ever seen in a presidential election.

Bill Frist 2008-06-29 02:54:28 AM

McCain has a long history of trying to become President and failing.

What exactly has he done in the past 7 years or so to improve his chances this time?

The only reason I think he got through the primary is because his fellow Republicans that ran were just slightly less lame than he is.

JohnnyC 2008-06-29 03:32:01 AM
Err... the other way around that is... He was slightly less lame then they were. It's gettin' late.

He lost one Presidential primary.

Several Presidents lost general elections before later being elected.

CravenMorehead: Any man that owns 7 homes should not be collecting social security.

You can't seriously believe this, can you? If you pay into the system your entire life, you think you should get nothing back out of it?

I don't like Social Security much and I'd opt out of it if I could, but to say someone shouldn't get anything out of it when they put into it is a bit much.

That said, WTF do you need 7 houses for?

Lionel Mandrake [TotalFark] 2008-06-29 04:15:23 AM
The important thing to remember is that it is OBAMA that is the elitist.

robsul82 [TotalFark] 2008-06-29 04:16:26 AM
I expect the flip-flops from longheld "John Edwards (or whatever wealthy Democrat) can't possibly care about poor people because he's RICH and has a BIG HOUSE!" positions to "Just because John McCain has 8 - whoops, 7 - houses doesn't mean he doesn't care about normal people! Just because you're rich doesn't mean you can't care about regular folks!" to be DELICIOUS.

Benjamin the Rogue 2008-06-29 04:41:27 AM
How can you need so many houses that you can't just sell one to pay off the defaulted house? Or sell the defaulted...you know what, what the hell do I know about owning a house, I'll just shut up.

3_Butt_Cheeks 2008-06-29 04:42:35 AM
Shortly after NEWSWEEK inquired about the matter, the McCain aide e-mailed a receipt dated Friday, June 27, confirming payment by the trust to San Diego County in the amount of $6,744.42. County officials say the trust still owes an additional $1,742 for this year, an amount that is overdue and will go into default July 1. Told of the outstanding $1,742, the aide said: "The trust has paid all bills shown owing as of today and will pay all other bills due."

EVERYBODY PANIC!!!

Wow. Such investigative journalism should win awards!

Is there nothing newsworthy to report?

balloot 2008-06-29 04:46:56 AM
Can we please stop focusing on unimportant things like how McCain is so rich that he can't remember to pay taxes on all his houses, and focus on the fact that Obama is an ELITIST?

Subby's HL : John McCain (R- Everyman) owns seven houses, but is in default on his property taxes for one of them. That's some pancakes you can believe in.

Actual Facts HL : John McCain (R- Everyman) didn't pay the property taxes on a house neither he nor his wife own or live in - nor was he expected to.

FTFY.

//The family trust that owns the house and maintains the house for the elderly aunt of his wife's that DOES live there is overseen by a Bank - which never got the tax bills because the County was misaddressing the tax bills. And the County never took notice that they were being returned by the P.O. In turn, the bank that would have paid the bill never noticed that that they weren't receiving the normal tax bills.

Lee Jackson Beauregard 2008-06-29 06:38:39 AM

Hasn't paid his taxes on one of them.

But B. Hussein Osama is the elitist.
