And OBAMA is the elitist. . .OBAMA is the one who is out of touch.

Can't use a computer, doesn't know the price of gas. McCain 08!

First, his "I don't know" appears to be answering the question of when was the last time he pumped his own gas, not the price.

That being said, the fact that he answered it that way is absolutely stupid. McCain should have known the answer to that question off the top of his head. He should have expected it and have had it in his briefing.

That's just bad staffing there. He should know off the top of his head the average price of gas, milk, and bread is. Those are all questions that have screwed Presidential candidates before.

flavor of the month 2008-06-28 10:59:49 PM
when mccain gets asked about something that he knows reflects poorly on him, he immediately starts condescending. he gets called out on living like a princess and: "I don't recall and frankly, I don't see how it matters."

If he's telling the truth when he says "I don't see how it matters", then he's farking retarded.

If he's lying (which he is) it just goes to show how sad and fragile he is.

As liberal as I am, this is making a mountain out of a molehill. As has been said, his answer related to how much gas cost the last time he pumped it himself, not how much gas costs now. And honestly, it doesn't matter how much gas then, it matter how much it costs now.

Stuff like this can only really backfire. It's the equivalent of the Obama flag pin stuff. I really thought my party was above this nonsense.

This.

Plus it's especially telling since the price of gas hitting $4 a gallon has been reported on like crazy on evey major news network. Surely he must watch the news from time to time in the Straight Talk Express.

If he wants our votes he has to at least pretend to care about our problems.

I hate to agree with McCain, but he's right. This is the kind of meaningless trivia that people like to play 'gotcha!' games with.

Of course he doesn't pump his own gas. Neither does Obama.

Aurelian: As has been said, his answer related to how much gas cost the last time he pumped it himself, not how much gas costs now.

I don't live in the USA and I don't pump my gas in gallons, but I know that it's above $4 a gallon in many places and it's past $4.50 a gallon in some states. How do I know this? Do angels whisper this information into my ears as I sleep? Voices that only I can hear? Nope. You might be amazed to find that I know this by reading the news (on-line, print) and by occasionally even watching teevee news. The reason these numbers are in the news is because the high price of gas is a big issue with all Americans, affecting virtually every aspect of their lives.

I kinda think a presidential candidate should have at least a passing familiarity with an issue of that magnitude, especially given its coverage in the media.

And what did Republicans say when they were told how stupid the flag pin shiat was?

"It tests how the candidate can deal with controversy, real or manufactured."

Because it is equivalent to the discussion of asking a candidate how much gas is. Besides, he really ought to know prices this year running on 4 more years of Bush when 8 years of Bush has now trebled gas prices.

Party Boy: John McMarie Antoinette.McCain has been getting skewered in the media for comments earlier this month to a union group in Washington, D.C., that immigrants are taking jobs no one else wants, and offered them $50 an hour to pick lettuce in the Arizona sun for a summer, suggesting they couldn't do it.
The senator didn't stick around long enough to process any applications, despite several offers to take him up on his offer from the audience.

That's right, my friend's. $50 an hour for lettuce. You can't do it, my friends.

Grin like a crazy man

Don't make me talk shiat hectic
Behind the podium got me goin' like General Electric
EEEN!
My eyes are blinking
Not thinking

Oh, I don't even know,
That's gas costs more'n four-oh-oh
Oh', I got ta maintain
`Cause a oldster like me is goin' insane

Insane in the membrane
Insane old McCain!
Insane in the membrane

Insane in the membrane
Insane old McCain!

My stove makes it hotter
Cuz babies need hot water

Old boy used to fly it
Don't try it
I'll jack your ass like a Katrina riot
My green screen's green like grass
Makin' me look like an ass
You know
I look like a loco
whitey
Barack's just jealous `cause he can't outfright me
So flash that smile: creepy, wild
GOP voters don't wanna see me smile
Bamboo cage-frame
I'll explain
An oldster like me is goin' insane

Insane in the membrane
Insane old McCain!
Insane in the membrane
Insane old McCain!

Insane in the membrane
Going insane

Insane old McCain

Before Neil Armstrong
Walked the moon
I fought da Cong and ate cockroach stew
Gin
That's not change we can believe in
These brownies wanna blow my house down
Head underground
To undisclosed town
I'm raving mad
When they come to change my pad
And I'm out in the whitest land
Yes I'm the pancake pilot
Of this ship if I get
Wit' the nearsighted dream
Hide from the blue state beam
I really do believe in the unseen
Look, this makes my eyes strain
An oldster like me is goin' insane

Insane in the membrane
Insane old McCain!
Insane in the membrane
Insane John McCain!

Insane in the membrane

WICKSOL: When was the last time you pumped your own gas and how much did it cost?

So a Senator who doesn't hit the Shell station and pump gas said he didn't recall the last time he had to pump gas, thus didn't know how much the price was at that time.

OUTRAGEOUS!

I pumped gas 2 days ago and can't recall exactly how much it cost.

I would assume that as a senator and a presidential candidate, he might do something like... oh, I don't know, pay attention to what his constituents care about like the fact that rising fuel costs are breaking them?

LincolnLogolas: I would assume that as a senator and a presidential candidate, he might do something like... oh, I don't know, pay attention to what his constituents care about like the fact that rising fuel costs are breaking them?

Again, he stated the last time he pumped gas (suggesting it has been quite some time) he doesn't recall how much a gallon cost at that time, and said "I don't think that matters."

I don't care if he can't recall the price of gas whenever the last time he filled his tank was.

He did not say nor suggest he was unaware of today's fuel costs.

ilambiquated 2008-06-29 06:32:36 AM
A good candidate would be able to say "The prices have roughly doubled in the past x months and it is hurting normal Americans and blah blah" instead of this crap.
