Zombies. Let me run from them.

BoneStorm 2008-06-28 09:09:58 PM
These guys are so dead. Big Pharma and the Insurance Syndicate will not let this ever see the light of day. The FDA will just tie this up long enough to shut these guys down.

Even if they do manage to get it out, it will either be so expensive as to be unattainable or will be modified so it will have to be administered regularly for the rest of one's life - also at great expense to the patient.

Put the guys in witness protection, stat.

Weaver95 [TotalFark] 2008-06-28 09:32:54 PM
The study will begin with 22 cancer patients for whom conventional treatment has been unsuccessful. The researchers say that they will know within three months if the treatment will work in humans.

Cancer researchers worldwide will be watching the tests closely.

It's gonna be a damn shame when those researchers all die in a terrible plane crash while transporting the results of all their research to....oh, let's say....alaska....and all that data gets lost in a glacier or something.

CougarJeff [TotalFark] 2008-06-28 09:36:36 PM
What about DCA? When does the human trial on that begin?

Sharch [TotalFark] 2008-06-28 09:48:06 PM
LadyHawke911: It will be interesting to see the results of this trial.

First, though, it will be interesting to see the results of the current experiments. He has yet to publish these results, which is required for experts and non-experts to assess his seemingly promising conclusions.

Science by press-release is a red flag.

Yeah, big pharm might have a problem with it, but the big ass insurance companies will be pulling for this like a mother farker. Do you know how much money each health insurance will save annually if this works out. BILLIONS.

/My ma had cancer, and her therapy cost over 100,000. And it was a relatively "easy" kind of cancer that was cured through chemo and radiation.
//Looking forward to getting paid to donate some white blood cells :)

Dude... Big Pharma may not be happy, but the insurance industry will LOVE it. They're on opposite sides, so please get your conspiracies right.

Yeah, not exactly. This stuff is very promising, but even if it did everything they hope for, there are other forms of cancer.

Fingers crossed, but we'll still have cancer to deal with. It might just be the Middle C instead of the Big C.

The FDA can only control what goes on in the US. Big pharma doesnt have control everywhere in the world even. As a result if the science is good, it will come out, somewhere. And ya know the process for how to do this could be patented by big pharma so they would make money each time its performed on someone. Granted it would have to be with the blessing of these researchers since there is a little thing called "prior art" but meh.

Sounds like the cure is to get other people's white blood cells. Leading to rich Cancer-ridden patients using money to kill and steal the blood of poor people in a neo-vampire setup.

That will be awesome.

Don't worry man, the researchers sent me copies of all their work, just in case of such situations, there's really no cause for concer..... excuse me, there appears to be someone at my door, be right back.................................

How can they? This is in Canada.

Obama won't allow it in America cause cancer is supposed to be cured through Stem Cell research.

If this is true, I wonder if big pharma company will buy controlling shares in this company and keep this locked up.

Kind of like what big oil did with those nihm batteries that were going to be used for electric cars.

FTA: The cells have also been able to kill cervical, prostate and breast cancer (and tumors)

Even if that's all it can cure, that's huge. Something like 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer... just huge if there is a cure for these forms of cancer. And that's not taking into account deaths caused by cancer in the other areas of the body that become cancerous after it spreads from the areas listed above.

MaritimeGirl [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-06-28 09:59:23 PM
As bad as cancer is, if the human race discovers a cure for it, wouldn't that mess with nature moreso than anything else we've done? We're not supposed to all live to be 100.

Sure, if it works out and I (or a family member) get diagnosed with cancer, I'd want the cure but that's normal survival instinct.

Just think about what would happen if scientists cured every major disease - the population count would skyrocket as well as our financial cost for senior care.

You kidding me? If any one company broke from the pack and was first to market, they could pretty much crush the rest of the industry under their feet. Tell me that's not worth trying for if you're a pharmaceutical.
