I would've thrown a tomato.

Sure, it's an instant ticket to Gitmo, but it's worth it.

I don't know if that was the right action. He may be corrupt, inept, and a warmonger, but he is still the elected president of the country. One should always wave back if one is waved to. Seems a bit harsh not to wave back. In the end, it solved nothing and probably just reaffirmed what Bush thinks about "little people."

I think they just look like asshats. The man, for better or worse, is the president. Common courtesy says you at least return the greeting.

I agree with you except it doesn't make for interesting video so I'm glad it was them and not me in this case.

Common courtesy is reserved for strangers that you do not know anything about so you give the benefit of the doubt to, and acquaintances that you have respect for. Bush does not fall into either category.

No, no. You would then say that's how the young people of today say 'You're #1!' He would completely fall for that.

A bit harsh to not wave back? Dude's invaded the wrong country, led the military to the deaths of 4,000+ servicemen, let an American city drown while he stayed on vacation and then jetted to a birthday party/fundraiser for John McCain, and had led an economy to more job losses than any president since Hoover.

But it's harsh not to wave? I would have TOTALLY flipped him off. Both hands.

I disagree, Bush has always seemed to regard himself as in touch with the man in the street, is there any better way to show him that he is no longer in touch by simply snubbing him. It's not like the mooned him while pissing on Old Glory is it?

The guy on our right clearly has his left hand across his midsection. So unless he has some very unusual postures -he is most certainly facing the president's helicopter.

It would really help the political discourse in this country for people to get back to having common respect. He is the President of the United States. Every president has ordered actions (or failed to order actions in the case of Jimmy Carter) that citizens disagree with. Clinton ordered a military strike during the Lewinsky scandal, Bush 41 had "Read my lips", Reagan had Iran-Contra, Carter failed to do anything about the hostages, Ford fell down a lot, Nixon ordered his men to break into The Watergate, Johnson increased our presence in Vietnam, Kennedy had the Bay of Pigs, etc, etc.

The key is for us to, as a whole, make the right decisions. Right now, the partisan divide keeps the government from doing anything, and so the corruption increases, our roads don't get maintained, and yet taxes keep rising.

I would like people to cease seeing "Dubya" and get back to seeing "The President".

But I think that's the ex military in me talking.

Which one of these approaches the farkup level of Iraq? None, I'd say. Bush is unique in that--he's a god among men when it comes to creating catastrophes.

The key is for us to, as a whole, make the right decisions. Right now, the partisan divide keeps the government from doing anything, and so the corruption increases, our roads don't get maintained, and yet taxes keep rising.

Wait, what? There was little partisan division when Republicans controlled Congress and the Oval Office. They did whatever they wanted....which was start wars, give tax breaks to the rich, run up massive spending deficits, allowing 9/11 to happen, etc.

We're better off in gridlock.

I would like people to cease seeing "Dubya" and get back to seeing "The President

I would like for them to not be the same person. Just a few more months....

unlikely: Me too. The sooner I stop seeing Dubya and start seeing a president again, the better.

I see what you did there.

I respect the office. He obviously does not; he views it as a joke, as his own personal profiteering racket, as a complete absolution from responsibility. I wish that he would stop making a complete mockery of the dignity of the office and would instead respect it and the country that it at one point represented.

I wouldn't have flipped him off, but I would have turned my back.

MooseUpNorth 2008-06-28 08:40:03 PM
When you guys vote someone in who respects the Office of the President, I will be content to do the same.

Damba: I would like people to cease seeing "Dubya" and get back to seeing "The President".

Yeah, I've heard the argument that we should respect the office before. I don't buy it.

I don't even care that he's Republican, in a few years when the small government conservatives hold sway again it won't even be a dirty word anymore.

But for this specific man? After all his lies and abuses, there's no need to accord him any respect at all. I respect the office as much as its current occupant deserves, and the respect Bush deserves is nil.
