Well, he handled that rather more gracefully than I was expecting, given the headline.

Much as I'm not a big fan of McCain, I'm less a fan of hecklers, especially when they can't form a sentence or make a coherent argument. He handled it well.

verbal_jizm [TotalFark] 2008-06-28 02:13:31 PM
Umm, I'd rather feed my testicles to a pitbull than vote for McCrazy but he wasn't exactly stumped by the heckler. In fact he responded pretty well, unfortunately.

Bill_Wick's_Friend 2008-06-28 02:41:17 PM
Stumped? I don't think he was stumped at all.

(but have you noticed that all of McCain's speaking events are in dreary looking hotel conference rooms with a couple of hundred suits in attendance? compare to obama events.)

Does that mean you could tell what the heckler was saying? I couldn't make out a word of it.

/McCain handled it just fine
//still not going to vote for him.

I think the headline is pretty fair, it's not saying that he handled it poorly. When I first read it, I thought, "oh, he made a funny out of the incident." Which is what any public speaker would do.

Of course, I'm going to use any excuse I can to trot out this picture.

GAT_00 [TotalFark] 2008-06-28 06:40:51 PM
Maybe it was a planned heckler, given how hard it is to get into Republican events. Makes him look good, and gives them the excuse to crack down on security.

I thought the headline was even-handed and would like to see more articles with more "teh funny" and less "teh partisan". Good job, subby.

Also, it's rather shocking to see that photoshop pop up in the middle of a thread.

Wow, he took a random heckler and incorporated it immediately into a policy point in his speech. That was pretty smooth. Didn't Obama have a similar thing happen at a primary a while back? We should dredge that up and compare.

It all comes down to the first amendment. That heckler didn't agree with what he had to say, but she shouldn't start screaming when he has the floor. If she has a message she wants people to hear, she should set up her own damn podium and everyone that wants to hear her talk gets to listen. She is just attention whoring her way into looking like a flaming lunatic.

That said, I will give my vote to Obama this year.

/And McCain handled that perfectly acceptably, as far as I can tell. And yeah, she was being ridiculous.

That means he is a human with a temperment unsuited for the presidency.

Read what his fellow Republicans have to say about him:

Former senator Bob Smith, a New Hampshire Republican, expresses worries about McCain: "His temper would place this country at risk in international affairs, and the world perhaps in danger. In my mind, it should disqualify him."

It was early 1992, and the occasion was an informal gathering of a select committee investigating lingering issues about Vietnam War prisoners and those missing in action, most notably whether any American servicemen were still being held by the Vietnamese. It is unclear precisely what issue set off McCain that day. But at some point, he mocked Grassley to his face and used a profanity to describe him. Grassley stood and, according to two participants at the meeting, told McCain, "I don't have to take this. I think you should apologize."

McCain refused and stood to face Grassley. "There was some shouting and shoving between them, but no punches," recalls a spectator, who said that Nebraska Democrat Bob Kerrey helped break up the altercation.

Grassley said recently that "it was a very long period of time" before he and McCain spoke to each other again, though he declined, through a spokesman, to discuss the specifics of the incident.

I don't want a guy with a temper like that running this coontry...er, country. Anyone who can call his wife that name in front of 3 reporters, his wife, and two campaign heads when his wife makes a JOKE about his hair thinning obviously can't control his actions. Including pressing the big button.

I remember reading about an alleged fist fight Obama had with a fellow state legislator when he served for the Illinois State Senate. I thought I saw it on Instapundit, but google keeps bringing up not what I'm looking for.

To me, both of them seem pretty feisty. I can't see how on this measure it would end with anything but a draw.

well, since McCain can't raise his arms above his shoulders, I would say McCain would work the body while Obama would try to take McCain's head off. However, I think Obama can't generate the momentum for a knockout punch so I give the fight to McCain.

Late rounds victory, McCain throws a couple of really hard body blows to the ribs then throws a right uppercut to a bent-over Obama, ala early Mike Tyson.

you guys have an embarrassment of riches for the next election. i believe both candidates are decent picks.

of course, they are politicians and, as such, are completely corrupt.

Hard to know whose dimmer in this thread.

The "Stumps McCain" wasn't in the FARK headline, it was in the cbs headline.

I ain't voting McCain, but the guy is sharp and has a sense of humor and knows how to deal with hecklers.

It takes more than some old coont to torture him.

Would you like to actually cite a source, or just pretend that you think you might have possibly seen it alleged somewhere, but it's nowhere on the google?

Perhaps you require the services of a certain makeup trolloping coont to help you turn on the computer first.

Took a while to find, but here it is, for your edification.

Link (new window)

It looks to be from a biography someone from Obama's state senate district wrote about him.

I wonder how much force would be behind a shove from McCain, considering he can't move his arms well and only weighs in at 160-170 at 5'6"?

For some reason, I have the video of those old dudes pushing each other on a TV news channel in my head right now.
