I don't need "intelligence drugs," Thom, because I don't know what those are - okay, Thom? But I will put anything in my mouth that is given to me, whether it's supposed to go there or not - because I'm different. Is that clear with everyone?

altxatu: Aluminum smelting?

Aluminum refinement from bauxite is very energy intensive. Iceland has a surplus of extremely cheap geothermal power. It is less expensive to ship the ore to Iceland and refine, than other refinement locations. I wonder if that changes with the rapid rise in transportation costs?

So... I think the show should have started. Anybody get the link to work yet?

JihadMakeMeHungry 2008-06-28 03:12:53 PM
Nevermind. It's on.

Sorry, not working for me... anyone have a link? Or is it on myp2p.eu somewhere?

Not working for me, either.

I couldn't open the file, it says i have no program for it!

It says quicktime is the default player for me, then it just shows a title screen for the Nalhita thing saying the concert will be... RIGHT NOW. But obviously not showing it. Tried KMPlayer and WMP to stream it. Anyone else have any other ideas?

It did the same thing to me the first couple of times. Just keep trying I guess. I'm using Quicktime.

It's working fine for me. Was Bjork messing with Jonsi's outfit?

guitarpick8120 2008-06-28 03:49:57 PM
Damn... well, it finally started working but I only caught the last 15 seconds of the best song ever: Glósóli. Oh well.

Thanks. Working flawlessly in QuickTime for me. I am supposing the band with the castrati is Sigur Ros.

Ah, Bjork, Bjork, Bjork. The things I'd do with her (or, as the truly objectifying might say "to her"), while technically not unspeakable are of a graphic sexual nature and as such of no interest to anyone here.

This is great. I've got to go get some Sigur Ros albums now.

Wow. Hope that will available on a dvd someday.

I don't really understand what people see in Sigur Ros, but here's to hoping that Bjork crushes an aluminum can against her forehead.

Marquis de Sod: I don't really understand what people see in Sigur Ros

outside of Radiohead, I'm surprised Sigur Ros are the biggest post-rock act out there. They're pretty damn boring.

Whoopa Fadoopa 2008-06-28 06:34:58 PM
Wow, Sigur Ros rocks! Oh, and Bjork's good, too. I bet somewhere Yoko's lamenting that she wasn't born in Iceland, she coulda been big, HUGE!, I tell ya.

/what sarcasm?
//dissonance rules, c'mon!

sarahelizabeth 2008-06-28 07:28:17 PM
What I would have given to see Sigur Ros in concert when they were here in Omaha. Instead I got stuck in the basement at the UNO arts building during a two hour long tornado warning.

/heard they were jamming in the basement of the Orpheum Theater
//would have been an amazing night despite the tornadoes

for good or for awesome 2008-06-28 08:13:47 PM
So, is she pro aluminum smelting?

Jim_Callahan 2008-06-28 08:25:21 PM
WTF are they talking about with the 'oil' quote, exactly? I thought most of Iceland's electricity was geothermal (aluminum is refined with electric current, as opposed to, say, steel, which consumes coke and heat).

minoridiot 2008-06-28 09:12:03 PM
Sigur Cubes?

Gosling [TotalFark] 2008-06-28 09:23:06 PM
The smelting thing in a nutshell, as I understand it:

*Iceland starts out maypoles and tea parties, but worries that it's a bit backwater.
*Sees all this aluminum in the areas of Iceland where almost nobody lives.
*Companies like Alcoa waltz in, start a-smelting.
*Areas start uglying up, the few who do live there were basically fishing communities and that's all shot to hell now.
*Some (but not all) of Iceland goes 'oh God, what have we done'.

Think ANWR, Iceland-style.

Well, those who smelt it, dealt it.

That's from her 1977 album "Björk Gudmundsdóttir" (That's her complete name by the way), so no, it's not Björk as I've never heard before.

:P

/loves me some Björk...
