Armando Gallo has written several excellent books on Genesis and Peter Gabriel.

If you like Watcher of the Skies, check out Suppers Ready. It's about 26 minutes long so it's posted in several pieces on Youtube.

I have one of those superb books.
Not very much text but the photography is stunning.
It is a lot like a really well put together tour program but it spans their entire career.

The Dan Hedges YES book is the greatest rock bio I have ever read.
Wonderful images AND in depth biography.

mfaby -

Try the Genesis AUTObiography - "Chapter and Verse" - it's fascinating. For instance, Phil Collins was trying to emulate John Bonham on "Squonk" - and other great tidbits. With and without Peter Gabriel.

Armando Gallo's stuff is great in the visuals, a little short in the read.

And "Six Hours Live" is a worthwhile investment for anyone wishing to watch the original. "The Musical Box" comes under the heading of "tribute band" but when they've got the ORIGINAL slideshows for Lamb Lies Down" directly from Genesis, you know that "tribute" is an understatement. See 'em if you can. NOw on tour in Canada, I believe.

Subby - thanks.

NYZooMan - So you think you're a tough kid?
Is that what I've heard?

gilgigamesh 2008-06-28 11:32:37 AM
And that right there, kids, is why I will travel anywhere in the world to see a five man Genesis reunion.

I've been waiting thirty years. It would be worth it.

NYZooMan: Bunch of noise.

So I have to ask: what do you consider good music.

Just curious.

and YET another reason why Hackett may be the most under-rated guitar player

THANK YOU SUBBY!

I have this on dvd, but it's great to see this here!

I think some clips from the film [this one in particular] focus a little bit too much on Gabriel. And most of the film is rather dark. But besides that, the film is PRICELESS because it is a film of Gabriel Era Genesis at [arguably] the height of their powers... great songs.... good performances... the stories are intact.... just all around GREAT.
the only other Gabriel era Pro-shot film i know of is the Belgian TV one from 1971. That one is pretty good too... its production is excellent [especially for the time]: excellent camera editing, great sound, focus is on all the members at once or individually and equally.

Supposedly Gabriel doesn't really want much or anything to do with his Genesis years nowadays.... and supposedly he especially is not too fond of this {In Concert" [1973] film for some reason...

my fav. between song banter from the gabriel era are from two 73 and 74 era concerts. [off the top of my head... the wording may only 95% correct...lol]

heckler: "MISSISSIPPI QUEEN!!"
Phil: "we'll resort to that later"
Peter: "HUSH!!"

Phil: "anybody want to buy any equipment?"
audience member: "how much for your cymbals?"
Phil: "oh no...not these ...sorry... they're mah babies!"

[before supper's ready] [doing jeruselem boogie bit]
Peter: "and it went something like this..."
[silence]
Peter: "Phil!?!"
Phil: "sorry everybody"
Peter: "there's people out there!"
Phil: "I'm really sorry everybody. I wasn't paying attention to what he was saying"

Peter: "and now it is time for an unexpected humurous sketch entitled 'what's happened to my F***ing microphone?!'..... at this point in the sketch, i'd like to introduce our Roadie, named Nick. His *real name* is also Nick."

[after more equipment failures]
Phil: "I guess you'd've been better off going to the pictures, now, eh?"
