Exactly. Yesterday afternoon on CNN, some dizzbrain had a debate on Karl Roves comment that Obama was like a country club snob, and Anderson Cooper was going to have a panel discuss Naders ass.ertion that Obama doesnt talk Black enough.

Jonathan Mann, you truly are a professional journalist. You're earning that TimeWarner paycheck. Jonathan Mann everyone!

from an earlier piece:

"Clinton appeals more to ordinary, working-class Americans than Obama."

note that here, ordinary means "white."

yes, because working-class black folks sure ain't ordinary! talk about fringe groups, am i right!

Not racist. It's an honest question, but the way the media is going about addressing it and presenting it is yellow journalism at it's finest.

I disagree somewhat, in that Obama's name is racially distinguishing, and CNN is framing the question more as "Can he be elected with that name?" than "How prejudiced are American voters?" That's a bit racist to me.

That might just be me?

People who really like his policies? He wouldn't win, becuase the uninformed voters make up a majority, but plenty of people vote based on their interests instead of fake controversy.

I would just like to say that this election, while interesting, has caused me to lose respect for: John McCain, Nanci Pelosi, Ralph Nader, The Clintoned in the Boobies, Al Gore and many others.

But my point here is I've lost serious respect for people I genuinely like. It's not like I'm only losing respect for people I hate, you know? Ralph Nader's comments are revolting. I used to think he was an idealist, but now I know he's like an anti-partisan hack who'll attack anybody for any reason. I lost respect for Gore, who didn't have the guts to back a candidate and now throws his support behind Obama as if he'd always been pulling for them. I liked Bill, but after this I can't say that.

He's black. He has a non-WASP name. farking deal. FARKING DEAL. Seriously. These people are proving every day that America is not the place we've been saying it is.
And the sad part is, it's mostly about these white people not knowing what to do with their racism and prejudice. At once Obama is being called too black, not black enough, Muslim, not Christian enough, too Christian...I mean it goes on and on. It's openly inflammatory, completely biased, totally inaccurate, and a result of not being able to call Obama a n*gger.

It's disgraceful. Everybody's losing face, on all sides. I'm amazed Obama is still standing as straight as he is. A lesser candidate, whatever you feel about his electability, would already have crumbled.

You see, I agree that the question is being asked the wrong way, but it's premise is valid. Will voters elect a black/foreign sounding person's name as president? That's not racist per se. Is one of the potential answers of said question indicative of some racism. Most certainly.

CNN is reporting on the potential racism of America's citizens. Why CNN is a little racist here is because they aren't calling into question the validity of the topic; therefore their own views on his race/name are at least hinted at. A truly non-racist news organization would have a couple articles about how stupid this conversation is, how you're utterly racist for even engaging in it. Then they should dismiss it and never bring it up again. Then only Republican pundits would be screaming about it.

That's the non-racists version. But CNN obviously

As long as his policy goes beyond "make the poor, the brown and the female take it in the shorts", his name could be Malcolm Peter Brian Telescope Adrian Blackpool Rock Stoatgobbler John Raw Vegetable Brrroooo Norman Michael (rings bell) (blows whistle) Edward (sounds car horn) (does train impersonation) (sounds buzzer) Thomas Moo... (sings) "We'll keep a welcome in the..." (fires gun) William (makes silly noise) "Raindrops keep falling on my" (weird noise) "Don't sleep in the subway" (cuckoo cuckoo) Naaoooo... Yes, I would add one more name to that list but I get flamed regularly enough around here for having a contrary opinion.

It's strange how you have to follow the crowd or get called a traitor.

I thought I was over that here on Fark when the masses figured out that the war was not all it was cracked up to be - but that's just crazy talk.
