ha! Wear tall shoes

Gwendolyn [TotalFark] 2008-06-27 03:17:27 PM
If I recall correctly being taller sure didn't help Gore or Kerry.

FTA: Obama is about 6 feet 1 inch tall; McCain is 5 feet 9

Unless they're sharing a podium, I doubt that it'll matter much.

The concern, I think, would be the handshake, when they'll be side-to-side.

Yanks_RSJ 2008-06-27 03:25:28 PM
Asinine? These things are important.

If they weren't, people may have been using the phrase "President Nixon" in 1961. As the story goes, radio listeners of the Nixon/JFK debates had Nixon the winner, while TV audiences overwhelmingly thought Kennedy won.

Bill Frist 2008-06-27 03:26:31 PM
That's because only bottom feeders listen to the radio.

Here's a couple other things:
He's like 50 yrs older
McCain=Bush's third term

In all honestly, I think McCain would be a worse president than Bush. He is even more arrogant and egotistical and even less likely to listen to other people's opinions.

He might be better on enviornmental issues, but he is much scarier as someone in charge of the military.

Last One Left [TotalFark] 2008-06-27 03:32:29 PM
Obama is about 6 feet 1 inch tall; McCain is 5 feet 9.

According to his medical report, McCain's 5'6". That figure is probably from IMDB.

Oh, and the height of a candidate does make a statistcally significant difference, especially in the popular vote. Heightism is real, even in employment.

Bill Frist 2008-06-27 03:35:26 PM

Not only is heightism real but it is actually someone accurate.

Statistically, taller people are smarter than shorter people. (Basically smart succesful people marry attractive mates and the genes for attractivness, which includes height, combine with genes for intelligence over the centuries)

Certainly true in this case. McCain is an idiot who graduated at hte bottom of his class. Obama is one of the smartest politicians around.

burndtdan 2008-06-27 03:36:17 PM
Bill Frist: That's because only bottom feeders listen to the radio.

honestly, if you think about it, who was still primarily listening to radio for the debates? probably old people who hadn't caught on to the new fangled television technology. not exactly JFKs core constituency.

/and now, we have the same, with the internet

Bill Frist 2008-06-27 03:40:24 PM
Seriously, the radio/TV discrepancy is mostly explained by who listeend to what. More Nixon supporters listened to radio.

Anyway, Nixon was also pretty crappy in debates... it wans't just a height/T-shirt thing

Bill_Wick's_Friend 2008-06-27 03:42:01 PM
McCain is also going to demand that the lights be dimmed, so that his unattractive appearance cannot be compared to Senator Obama's.

McCain is also going to demand that the subjects of the debates are "pie" and "bacon" so that his inability to actually give a specific answer on specific policies (and to stick with that answer for more than a few minutes) aren't so noticable.

Ha, Bush whined about this before the debates with Kerry. The solution was to even out the tops of their heads, which only made Bush look like a midget.

Someone? You must be a short person :P

Statistically, taller people are smarter than shorter people.

Correct. Even controlling for the difference in age (people have grown taller over the years, on average), I'd say that Obama would come out ahead.

You have to question who is smarter, however, if Obama accepts this condition.

I think McCain is going to look like a degenerating fossil. He could be a full foot taller and just look like a tall degenerating fossil.

McCain supporters: you do realize that you are voting for his VP pick. There is a rather good chance he is going to keel over in office. This is not conjecture.

UberDave [TotalFark] 2008-06-27 05:39:49 PM
He just better be thankful that they don't have pantless debates. Not that I know anything....I've just heard things about tha brothas.

Maybe McCain should demand that Obama not raise his arms over his shoulders...

Obama should demand that McCain stand next to his illegitimate black child.

McCainDemocrat 2008-06-27 05:51:37 PM
Going by the standard of the Cake picture (new window): McCain is probably closer to 5'9" than 5'6"

And if height mattered, then Kerry would be President and Fred Thompson would have won the GOP nomination.

This is just a test by McCain's side to see how much they can get.

RawData 2008-06-27 05:56:13 PM
Nothing you can do to make McCain look any less like a fidgety Porky Pig - even if you put pants on him.

That's what George Bush thought when he agreed to be Reagan's VP.

as has been pointed out already his medical report has him at 5'6" and 163 pounds. so rather than relying on trying to figure it out with picture of stewart or a pancake, i'll go with the actual number

I don't think this is a height issue, I think they're just claiming that. I think the reality is McCain is afraid he won't be able to stand up for two straight hours.

Seriously. I think it's age.
