FTFA: Larry Craig - is this your way of trying to prove to the country that you're not gay? We're not buying it

I lol'ed

MorrisBird [TotalFark] 2008-06-27 02:15:05 PM
Bwahahahahahah! I'm going to take a wide stance on this one.

ursomniac [TotalFark] 2008-06-27 02:19:36 PM
Let's see two people whose marriages are shams and a completely mockery of the institution are trying to prevent other - generally more-moral - people from participating in the same institution, despite our country's fundamental values of equality, justice, and liberty.

Why aren't they being run out of town?

Why do Republicans always try to legislate things like this? Do they think that if it's illegal it'll somehow prevent them from doing it? I can't speak for everyone else, but I've done reasonably well at not being gay through this point in my life despite it not being illegal. Can't they just do that, too?

GAT_00 [TotalFark] 2008-06-27 02:28:15 PM
Well, isn't that just nice of them. Two people who don't respect the version of marriage they yell about are saying that other people can't get married. What are they so afraid of?

Diogenes [TotalFark] 2008-06-27 02:28:19 PM
Look at this way, at least it's the two least qualified spokesmen for the cause. Hopefully the votes will show it.

Because they don't want the government interfering in our lives. They're rugged individualists. You know...bootstraps...don't tread on me...all that crap.

My family does not and will never share your hateful and regressive values, social conservatives.

Keep your self-loathing private and stop legislating with it.

Hell, I am still bamboozled by Bill Clinton signing the "Defense of Marriage Act" into law, and that was over a decade ago.

I suspect you will be just as good/bad as the rest of us are. I mean, the city I live in has a 75% divorce rate. We do have a military base though.

Yeah, I was letting my anger overstate the case. I'm basically saying that they're afraid it won't be a complete disaster and that Western civilization will surive regardless.

alywa [TotalFark] 2008-06-27 02:49:56 PM
God forbid gays and lesbians are treated with any respect, or given any legal protection. And for all of you who say "they just need a will and power of attorney to protect their rights", read this and see what you think.

(From yesterday's redlit (but good) thread.

Lesbian couple denied rights by hospital (new window)

/Gay marriage. It's interracial marriage all over again. Get over it, fundies

Oh, I agree with you. Western civilization may be doomed, but letting any two people get married won't be the cause.

Shenanigans. There's no way this is true.

I don't know about Larry Craig, but Vitter's been living in a cave, hiding from the media, since this story broke. I'm not sure he's even been back to his senate office.

ExJerseyGirl [TotalFark] 2008-06-27 02:55:59 PM

Wait. No it isn't.

Having gay marriage become legal has had no discernible bad effects here.

In all fairness, most of the national-level GOP gives the GOP a horrible name. It's just for different reasons, depending on the individual.

Seconded. Unfortunately, he'll be a shoe-in as long as he wants to stay in the Senate. Sessions may have a shot at eventually being defeated, but not this year.

I plan on plugging this amendment the hole way, all the way, until it is completely submerged in the anals of the constitution.

I'm shocked that more people aren't outraged, gay or otherwise, and taking to the streets over it. At the same time, there are bigger issues in the world, like war, the economy, etc... and maybe people are generally more focused on how to make their bill payments for the month, or finding a job, than protesting this sort of stupidity.

It's a shame that the politicians refuse to focus on the real issues facing us, and prefer to attempt to make good old fashioned discrimination part of a document it doesn't belong in. They should have more respect for the Constitution and what it really stands for than to use it to force their twisted, hate-filled agendas on people.

Sorry, marriage is already a reality in MA, NJ, NY, and CA. (I don't count Hawaii because I don't consider Hawaii a state - long story).

Anyways, the fight is pretty much over, and we won.

How come? Did Larry Craig propose marriage to that police officer in the bathroom? Otherwise I don't see it.

Personally I'm strongly pro-gay-marriage and would love to stick it to these guys, but let's be honest here.

It hasn't been legal there long enough. You had better move out of there soon though because eventually they will find all the straight-married people and they WILL come to your house and gay marry you and gay marry your kids.

It's only a matter of time.

No but he did try to get that guy's cock in his mouth, yet he's saying that only women who put cock in their mouths are allowed to marry the human attached to that cock. It may just be meaningless bathroom trolling cock-sucking to our GOP Senators, but some people might fall in love with the dudes whose dicks they suck and they should be allowed to marry them.
