Yah. Maybe it isn't on the first page all the time, but I've consistently seen stories on it on the first few pages over the last 6 months. If you haven't read the news about it, you just haven't been reading the news.

This has been upsetting me greatly for a long time, the situation with Mugabe rips at me. What can be done? If we intervene everyone will call us white colonialists taking control of black people's shiat just like in the old days.

Why don't any of the neighbors get involved?

It's cute. My liberal friend and TFer told me that by the virtue that Mugabe is allowing an election, he has proven that all of the news we hear about his is bunk and brought up by the hate-filled, war-mongering right-wing media.

archichris [TotalFark] 2008-06-27 11:04:16 AM
Theres no good gosh darn difference between this guy and Castro, they are both revolutionaries who wanted to get rid of the elitist european influences on their societies, they both butchered people in their rise to power, they both took property from the rich with no due process, and they both degenerated into dictators with an iron grip on power, and they are both (were both for big C) killing or imprisoning their politcal critics.....

Like I said, HEROES TO THE LEFT!!!

I don't think it'd make a shred of difference if he were gotten rid of. Some other Chavez type dictator would just step in and take his place.

I suppose one minor difference is that Robert Mugabe continues to butcher people.

Next time the USA decides to randomly invade a country that is being oppressed by a dictator that has nothing to do with 9/11, can it do Zimbabwe?

Alternately, can somebody just assassinate the farker? And the next guy who decides he doesn't need real democracy? And so on, until the problem is solved?

Of all the elected officials in Africa to get a bullet in their heads, how has this guy stayed in office/this mortal coil? If I were South Africa or Botswana, I'd put a snake in this guys mailbox toute suite and collect small unmarked favors from the rest of the world for ages to come.

Out of bbc.co.uk, msnbc.com, cnn.com, and foxnews.com which do you think does not have this story prominently on their front page? Bonus: it was also the first story I heard when I put on the BBC World Service this morning.

Oh, come on. That's disingenuous and you know it. He was a "hero" many, many years ago when he was seen as getting his country out from colonial oppression, before he turned into a total dictator.

That'd be like calling Saddam Hussein a hero to the right because he was our buddy back in the day. Equally disingenuous.

tidal9 2008-06-27 11:09:10 AM
I know this is a terrible thing to say (says my wife), but, sometimes I think it's best to leave Africa to itself and let them deal. It's been a primitive $$$ toilet for god knows how long. I think Bill Gates should invest his retirement funds into something not so dead end.

It is. I listen to NPR every morning and its been featured every day.

At the gym - which is the only tv I watch all day - it has been featured on ABC news and FOX news almost every day and I'm sure it will be today as well.

c) A farking moran?

Hint: It is always (c).

And Great Britain just de-knighted him this month as well. Which they never did during Blair's tenure as ally-in-chief to the U.S. So what.
