It beyond pathetic to watch David Addington, the author of the "unitary Executive Theory " (summary: the President can do whatever the f*ck he wants 'cause the goddamn president) claiming, under oath, that he didn't know what that term meant.

Nabb1 [TotalFark] 2008-06-27 08:50:30 AM
I don't know what was worse - Addington, or that smug representative saying he was glad al Qaeda now knows what he looked like.

Nabb1: I don't know what was worse - Addington, or that smug representative saying he was glad al Qaeda now knows what he looked like.

That's not what I picked up from that comment at all. I mean, really--He was mocking Addington's assertion that he couldn't talk because AQ was monitoring C-Span. If their intelligence was limited to C-Span, perhaps they were just introduced to his appearance then.

But somehow, I doubt that highly.

Mordant [TotalFark] 2008-06-27 09:11:01 AM
Addington is fine, Delahunt (like all libs) is clearly the real problem.

I was under the impression that I was the only viewer of C-SPAN 3, and I would like to assert unequivocably that I am not associated with Al Qaeda in any form or fashion. Thank you.

I would like to volunteer to give Addington a good swift kick to the teeth. But I'm afraid the line is too long already.

Those are actually two separate lines.

Largely because Comcast insists on keeping the damn Golf channel on the Basic instead of replacing it with CSPAN3 here....

Ha! No, different pool.

The Al-Qaeda #2 has a life span shorter than a helicopter gunner in Vietnam, so that's what that was all about.

Magorn 2008-06-27 01:27:50 PM
I'm even geekier, I heard it on C-Span Radio....

There was a ...well let's call it satisfying, moment when Joh Conyers got to look Addington an dYoo straight in the eye and force them to be a least somewhat ashamed . Yoo who probably wins a Medal of Freedom in the Internet Tough Guy category for once saying it would be okay for the president to order the torture of a child in front of his parents if he felt it necessary. But Yesterday he looked like such looked like such a spineless weasel when he refused to answer the simple question "do you still believe that? Is that still your legal opinion?"

Yoo, Torture Memo Man, and Addington are 2 willing pawns, and while I'd love to see them walk the plank, they're just minions. The Big Boss needs to be taken down.

Man, the guys at Crooks and Lies have a hard on for Addington.

If Al-Qaeda actually does watch C-Span, no wonder they hate America. I have a hard time not hating America after an hour of Washington Morning.

In any event, if you really want to watch some drama, find a tape of Dave Obey flipping out at the House Approps hearing yesterday.

Yoo's the "company man". The willing stooge who does what he's told. Addington, is one of the "intellectual powers" behind this neo-imperialist bullshiat that Cheney (you really didn't think Bush was smart enough to be behind this didja?) has been trying to foist on the country for the last 8 years.

Off topic, but you're a regular who probably can answer my question: when a topic is removed (like the one about Swift Boats and Kerry that was just removed) what is the reason for this?

Yes, much like the Third Reich lawyers had legal opions I didn't sgree with. ( sorry for the godwin)

At what point do you say "Ok, I hate Democrats, but Bush is a disaster and I was wrong"?

Yes. If your 'legal opinion' is actually illegal. It wasn't as if there was a legal consensus - Addington and Yoo were the ones pushing this - many others in the military and state department and FBI and CIA were extremely skeptical that this was legal.

But of course when there is a difference of opinion, who does Bush, Cheney, etc.. listen to? Who they want to.

BlackArt 2008-06-27 01:51:45 PM
Proving yet again that the current administration, and their fellow travellers, hate the idea of a free and open government.

If you think "Liberals" are part of the problem, then you hate freedom and everything it stands for.

I must say, cloaking pure evil in legalism and bureaucracy is pretty much the same thing the Nazis did. Don't let the fancy suits fool you, people. Addington and Cheney are pure war criminal thugs.

Was it Yoo who said that "cruel and unusual punishment" doesn't apply if you're not intending to punish someone, but "just" extracting information from them? I thought that was a clever knife to the back of the spirit of the law.

I am just astounded. If we saw anything like this in another country, we would immediately label the government as corrupt, cronyist (if that's a word), and crooked yet I hardly ever hear that applied to this administration by anyone. I also hardly ever hear anyone admit that people in the top level of the administration lied. They lied. Just because a person says they can't remember doesn't mean we can't draw the conclusion that they are lying. This happens in courts all the time.

This shouldn't be a conservative/liberal issue because this government is beyond that. Yes, I'm a liberal and when Bush first came to power I was moaning and groaning because he was a Republican. Now I'm having the same reaction times ten because of the sheer violation of the Constitution and it has nothing to do with the fact that they are Republicans. The Democrats disgust me almost equally because of things like folding over FISA, refusing to do much to stop the war, and claiming things like impeachment are "off the table".

People need to get beyond the partisan issues and see this government for what it is: corrupt.

coco ebert [TotalFark] 2008-06-27 02:13:54 PM
"impeachment hearings are off the table" I should say.
