Venues with no seats? Like a club? I assume all the music performances you go to are at monsterous arenas? Please go fark yourself, submitter, you are what is wrong with music today.

That sounds great, but I am guessing most of the fans who live within walking distance of public transportation were pretty likely to take it in the first place.

I never drive to concerts because I'm usually too blasted by the end to drive home.

gilgigamesh 2008-06-26 05:03:55 PM
So I guess their lightshows and the energy expended from hauling all that equipment around derives strictly from solar power.

I am a huge radiohead fan, but, you know. fark this noise.

/still catching them in august
//two shows at the APW fest!!

that's funny. then why the fark did they play the nissan pavilion in VA, which is 50 miles outside DC and 35 from any public transportation? and why did they have to play on a night where the ONLY ROAD leading to the pavilion was FLOODED, causing me to miss 22 of the 25 songs they played. bastards. still love 'em tho.

This. If you ever find yourself going to a music venue where you actually sit in rows of seats to watch the performance, it's time to stop going to concerts.

Seems like a pretty straightforward concept, doesn't it? I guess they're afraid the idea will catch on.

I was there. Unbelievable show. Sorry to hear about the troubles, I would have been as pissed as you if I couldn't get there.

Going to see them again in August at All Points West.

Yeah, because ALL venues in all places are within mass transit range.

It's a bunch of horseshiat and you know it.

Hope so. Sitting down at gigs sucks.

Can't wait to see them in August at the Outside Lands festival, which is going to be twelve kinds of awesome.

Got to see them in Houston last month, awesome show by the way.
/Took a party bus with fellow concert goers to the show
//Had lawn tickets, stood up the entire time

I'm seeing them in toronto later this year.

I will be taking a car holding just me a single person from 345 km away.

(and with little side jaunts and the like a round trip to Toronto for me is normally 800 km round trip)

That's a pretty big carbon footprint. If they played in Detroit it would be 100km round trip max.

You mean like the racetrack I saw them at where we sat on the lawn under the summer sky? Sign me up.

/was on the subway line too

DAnthrope 2008-06-26 07:04:37 PM
So, I'm curious... how is the band getting from venue to venue and how are all their people and gear being transported?

I'm not trolling, I'm just curious and don't know much about the band. I like the concept, sincerely. And I'd love it if they were making the same sorts of sacrifices themselves.

/Don't like country music but love Willy Nelsons bio-diesel tour busses!

RagingLeonard [TotalFark] 2008-06-26 07:13:18 PM
But will they have free WiFi for all the Mac fanboys who will be in attendance?

gilgigamesh: So I guess their lightshows and the energy expended from hauling all that equipment around derives strictly from solar power.

Yes, because if you can't solve every single problem at once, it's not worth trying to solve any at all. If you can't reduce your energy uses to zero, then don't bother reducing it all.

On Radiohead's website ... clicking on tour dates ... picking random venue ... Los Angeles @ The Hollywood Bowl ... now looking up venue info ... 4 parking lots & valet service ... nice

Fark Headline: Radiohead only touring in venues that have no on-site parking to encourage people to take public transit to shows.

Article: They've selected venues to be as accessible as possible by public transport

Typical Fark headline bullshiat. Who cares about the truth if you can generate comments?

Never got the big deal about Radiohead. They're sort of bland and derivative, but hey! The fratboys love `em.

I admire their recent choices (their album being available online for "whatever you think it's worth" was intelligent and refreshing) and think they're a competent band-- I just don't find their style of music particularly illuminating.

strongbadd 2008-06-26 09:09:08 PM

You obviously have no clue about Radiohead's sound if you think they're a "fratboy" band.

/they wrote that creep song, right?

Hey Radiohead, here in America, public transportation is basically nonexistant, especially in the Midwest.

monkeymatt 2008-06-26 11:07:06 PM
Radiohead is a frat boy band? Who knew?

Oh, my. Someone glanced at the headline and knee-jerked, didn't they?

FTA: "They've selected venues to be as accessible as possible by public transport..."

Horseshiat? You're soaking in it!

bv2112 2008-06-27 07:44:26 AM
fark them. After the bullshiat here in Virginia's Nissan Pavilion (~40 miles from DC, inaccessible by mass transit and most regular cars due to flood conditions), Radiohead can go fark themselves.

And the assholes even included an extra $6 in EVERY ticket for parking. Sure, they're talented musicians and I dig their music, but this "green" movement they espouse is a load of horseshiat. Neither they nor Livenation have responded to my emails regarding the shiatfest that was that night.

/rant off

No kidding. They have a huge electric screen playing during their whole show.

bv2112 I was there too. I have reconsidered by position on any live show over 30 minutes away because of that ordeal. Came in from Richmond.

I'm guessing that they teleport their equipment from venue to venue. Oh, wait...they use fuel from...wait for it...BIG OIL...

I'm seeing them outside of Cleveland in August.

And hey, Virginia guys. Thom Yorke just called me and wanted to apologize for causing all the floods before the concert.
