Anyone ever see the Dave Chapelle skit about how Tupac is still alive? I think I believe him.. 20 unreleased songs? Craziness.

How is that label not worth more than $24 million?

How is that label not worth more than $24 million?

People are still buying those records because a lot of them are considered classics to the early days of gangsta rap. I would especially say if something like Dr. Dre's the Chronic was released on Deathrow, that having the rights to that album and the songs would be worth a lot, not to mention Snoop Dogg's early work (when he was still "Doggy") and Tu Pac... Psssh, he's a cash cow even today.

Not to mention doing another couple "Tu Pac back from the deeeeaaaad!" albums.

Most musicians record a lot of material that never gets a proper release because they think it's crap. In this case, Pac isn't around to filter the garbage out, it's people looting his tapes for any old garbage to make some cash.

I was watching the Tupac documentary last night, and you basically got the idea that Pac knew he was gonna die so he made his songs amazingly quick. He would record one song in like an hour, and he wanted to make as much as possible before he died.

1. Suge Knight is a 24-carat prat. That much is obvious.

2. They've put out nothing but comps for THREE YEARS. Outside of Hip-Hop any record label would be crucified for this.

3. They told people NOT to buy their last home-produced "original" album, mainly because the artist in question hacked it apart under Suge's nose as he'd - oops! - recorded diss tracks targeting people he was about to work with.

/And I don't even LISTEN to Hip-Hop!

when he died, they had over 400 unreleased tracks. The man lived in the studio

Eh, Cleopatra Records has made a career out of doing this but yeah, I noticed that rap isn't as classic driven as rock or other genres of music and if you don't have a steady stable pumping out albums then your stock falls.

The real reason behind this is teh $107M suit filed agaist him from a co-founder of Death Row, which is why he filed bankrupcy.

I heard Dre sued for rights to 'The Chronic', but haven't heard anything since then

What Mr. Knight soon discovered was that you can't run an actual corporation like a street gang.

It's too young to be classic driven, but I think people are realizing just how much better the classics are than the new stuff so I think we are seeing a trend in that direction.

I'd also like to add that I'm sick of Suge releasing these Pac songs with artists he would have never worked with. Pac would probably not be down with 50 Cent, Ashanti, or Ja Rule on his records. When they put him on a track with Jay-Z I knew they were messing up, Pac HATED Jay-Z.

It sucks rent is due. It would be cool to own The Chronic masters.

You clearly know little about the structure of major street gangs, which are all run like corporations. Gangland, interesting and informative show, you should watch it.
