It's as simple as that folks. Your heroes turned out to be money-grubbing douchebags. They have your thousands of dollars, and now laugh at you and tell you you're wrong for downloading a copy of an album you've bought 10 times over. They didn't give YOU a free replacement did they? Nope, if it broke, you buy a new one.

Both bands are just looking to squeeze more cash out of you that they can.Good 'ol American business.

/I give up

To be fair, Kiss never claimed to be anything other than money-grubbing douchebags. On the other hand do we really need a song for every single solitary sexual euphemism there is?

If the modern era of rap and hip-hop has taught us anything... yes, apparently we do.

Randal2477: heroes

Phht. I like music, but heroes? I quit idolizing musicians back in my early teens; some innovators might be nice, I could admire that, but it's been a looong while. But yeah, they grub money, so what, I don't have to like them personally, it's just a few tracks on a CD to pass the time of day. You don't have to spend the money if you don't want to. Preview it, then pass/buy depending on quality. They aren't your friends, they didn't let you down.

Still, good on Bono, new distribution models are handy in any business but it's just a few minutes of entertainment, not a religion, not politics, and let's face it, those two examples are overrated as well.

pay-what-you-want experiment AKA publicity stunt

It was brilliant. Still amused that some actually believed it was to be the new norm.

radiohead made out like bandits from their "innovative internet marketing" scheme. Not only did they go on to actually release the album on CD anyway (thereby making the low-bitrate mp3 release a publicity exercise), but much more importantly, THE ALBUM SUCKED.

Wrong. The band themselves decided to release the album on the net within days of finishing it, just to see what happened - they had no deal whatsoever at the time. They released the album for free, if you wanted it, then said they'd also release it on CD for those who wanted a physical product.

Knowing I'd buy the inevitable physical product anyway, as a student I paid a few dollars (at the time I'd no idea what the exchange rate was so paid two pounds fifty), enjoyed the album, then picked it up on release day. I worked in a record store at the time, so got it cost price, the band got their share, my store got the credit towards target, the chain missed out. Great album.

It was on offer for FREE. Fark you if you don't want to pay a couple of dollars even after hearing it and most likely, keeping it.

But then again, this is Fark, people will find any reason they can to find fault with Bono/anything else Southpark tells them to fault...

There's things that I miss, and I'm sad it couldn't work out and things, you know, like that. But there's way, way, way, way more times and way more days and even hours that go by and I'm reminded, "Dude, all right. You did the right thing."

I wouldn't call "hey, pay what you want!" a marketing plan. More like a proclamation of how much they really dislike EMI.

Album isn't bad.....but that said, I haven't listened to it since it came out. Actually, I could say that about all of the Radiohead albums I've heard.

"That's nice." :album gathers dust in my hard drive:

I thought NIN started it, still uses it and Radiohead did it as a publicity stunt.

That's my defense for saying Bono, again, is an asshole.

I adore Bono. Don't care what the haters say. Just love him. I think it's awesome that he's so supportive of Radiohead.

And I'd still hit it.

I'm here to bash KISS. I saw Pearl Jam tonight (meh) and Ace Frehley was a special guest for some cover of a crappy KISS song (you'd think at the Garden, it'd be New York Groove. I don't know what it was).

I screamed "KISS SUCKS!" as loud as I could for all of his introduction and thank-you.

yeah, I could have gotten it for free, but I wanted to support what I thought was a real step forward in selling music. I didn't get it free, I paid. And what I got was a medium-quality mp3-release of an album I should have just torrented. they got my money AND they still got all the nice law-abiding people's money later on. when they put out the online release, I didn't see a thing about how they were going to release it on CD. maybe since you work in a record store you'd be more up on that kind of thing. but look, the way I put it is the way it is. I literally saw an interview with their manager where he admitted it was basically a PR stunt. that is, NOT innovative. same old bullshiat. and really, its not a great album. its their worst except maybe hail to the thief. its better than coldplay or the arctic monkeys (debatably) or thom's solo album, if that's what you mean.

actually, didn't south park have a pretty neutral/positive portrayal of radiohead?

you're a jerk. i'm serious about music. I know its tempting to just yell at the internets sometimes, but you've lost my virtual respect. (whatever you want to say about Bono as a celebrity, U2 completely blows. it isn't rock. its light pop. again, its better than coldplay but not, in this case, the arctic monkeys).

Blah blah, money grubbing douchebags, unlike (insert your band here). Because so many 'artists' in 'music' are in it for the artistic integrity. HAHAHAHAHA. That is all.

/Any band that can't make money is in it for the artistic integrity, //Some musicians may actually really be in it for the fans. Not the fame, drugs, groupies, or cash. HAHAHAHAHA.
///Or maybe that's all.
