Ahhhhh, The Concert in Central Park. I wasn't alive to see it, but it's on my top ten list of destinations to visit once I finish constructing my TARDIS.

61 out of 63 and I am ashamed.

How could I forget Mrs. Van Houten and Mrs. Lovejoy's first names? Nuts!

Wrong thread. I'm a jackass.

I was alive, and in Manhattan, but too young to attend when this event happened. However, looking back on it now, all I can think is how glazed, listless and drugged out the song, the singers and the sound was back then.

Glad my first show was Siouxsie and the Banshees, and not this fumbling attempt at meaning in the mundane.

My dad bought the double LP when I was a kid.
I wore that farker out when learning to play guitar.

And the obligatory link to the cover version by Yes.

Yes, it's poetry. It is the poetry of drugs and promiscuous sex. Honey, they're on pot.

I continue to look for America, and I did not have to sit ntext to a hippy.

I was old enough to see it, but I was in Kansas at the time.

I played The Concert In Central Park cassette tape literally every night at bedtime for about two years. It was my favorite.

Ahh, the guys who are sellin' loose joints.
He's so funny.

Bruford isn't adept enough on keyboards to do more than use the piano to compose with. Wakeman played on it.

youre absolutely right. my prog geek card has been revoked. BUT im right too. i pulled out yesstories(do i get my prog geek card back now?)and it confirmed my hazy memory that wakeman did not like the song and laid down his organ track then split. bruford did all the mellotron.

the REAL question here is-what the hell did wakeman not like about this ruling song enough to just leave and let someone else finish?

I think it's funny how Jon pronounces "Michagan" as "Mi-Chicken" in the line : "Michigan seems like a dream to me now".

was it an inside joke?
or do you think he really just mis-pronounced it?

Third_Uncle_Eno 2008-06-23 01:23:47 PM
wow. i can't spell.

* Michigan.

That song always makes me tingly.

When it happened, I saw the PBS rebroadcast and was stunned. I bought the CD years later and realized that what I was seeing WASN'T a S&G show, but rather, THE PAUL SIMON SHOW(with Art Garfunkel).

I sold the CD. The Old Friends Tours were closer to "authentic", I think.

Oh I think Steppenwolf said it better

I saw the old friends tour in Miami and it was the best $85 for crappy seats I ever paid. And, as I recall, I think Wakeman from Yes played keys that night. Awesome, awesome show.

A friend surprised me with tix to the Old Friends tour.

First show I've been to where the audience had walkers. No kidding.

Brilliant show. Reworkings of some songs to make them musically interesting, brought out the Everly Bros, which was fantastic, and - at the end - Paul hugged Artie.

Wonderful night.
