Sir, if you call Janis Joplin and Tom Jones overrated. Than I must ask who you think is a good talent?

Ah, an edgy young rebel has graced us with his enlightened view of things. Bless your heart for setting everybody straight, edgy young rebel dude.

In the future, please save your awesome fantasy fireballs of wisdom for your little wizard buddies. They might actually give a crap what you think. You didn't like it, we get it.

That's pretty cool. Not my style of music or era, but the emotions are blazing and fierce. The people that experienced this when they were growing up will always feel it more than anyone else.

I guess the fallacy between generations is that the youth always think they're the first to experience something or do so more than any previous generation. While the older people think that the youth know nothing. It's funny how that divide happens, and how noone sees the day coming when they have crossed over.

It's true -- that's a pretty reasonable view. I'm in an interesting position, being one of those older guys, but one who's surrounded almost exclusively by folks 20-30 years younger than myself. It's fun seeing and hearing what they're into, and while I don't often hear that much that's new to me in it, I can't help having a great appreciation for their enthusiasm. Likewise, they love digging through my ancient records and posters and picking my brain for info on old bands and gear. I very rarely have to tell any of them to get off my lawn.

The fallacy is that it's a one time thing.
For the youth, yes. For the older, it's been repeated over and over again with each new crop of youth.

The first time, maybe mid-twenties, you realize you're not in direct sync with the teens anymore and you just chuckle and laugh off their excess energy and naivete remembering how recently you were there yourself.

Then those kids grow and move closer to your views just when the next crop of youth start making noise. Now, together with the former naif, you again chuckle at their antics, though a bit less so for you.

Then those kids grow up ...

Repeat that 4, 5, 6, N times and you don't bother chuckling so much anymore. It gets a bit old hat.

So, if you think your life experience with grumpy gramps has been annoying to you for all your what, 5, 6, at most 8 years of it (since first real non-babytalk old-person interaction), you should try dealing with an endless crop of the same repeated naive wallbouncers for 20, 30, 40 years. Older people aren' so much hard of hearing, they're just tired of listening to the same kid-stuff over and over and over again for decades
