Her voice isn't much of a match for Tom. Would like to hear him do it with someone who has a stronger set of pipes, or else by himself.

Nina's got a great voice. I just don't think she was engineered very well on this recording.

I like the Cardigans. They did a cool take on Sabbath's "Iron Man" years ago. The bonus on that is that it surely pissed off a bunch of black-tee-wearing Sabbath fans.

The VOICE is the one carrying this song. That Nina chick has a thin, weedy, whiny little voice that requires a studio to make it at all acceptable. She's utterly typical and bland.

The Cardigans kinda blow, but Tom Jones is the man. Still, this doesn't beat some of his other collaborations.

You want obscure, how about the Pet Shop Boys teaming up with Liza Minelli for an ENTIRE ALBUM (new window)?

Or the Pet Shop Boys along with Dusty Springfield (new window)?

/Do any of you even know who Dusty Springfield is?

Here's Tom Jones singing with someone who has a voice on his level; The aformentioned Dusty Springfield.

Not my favorite, but good. (new window)

Not saying she doesn't have a good voice, just that it doesn't appear to be strong enough to match up well with Tom Jones, and I don't think that's purely an engineering issue. They're just in different leagues. Face it, there aren't that many people who wouldn't be blown out of the water paired with him.

Don't make me come down there, you. This ain't no look of love I'm giving you, either.

Calm down, pops. My wife was in radio for 12 years (music director for 9 of those) and we have 5,000 CDs and over 1,000 concert ticket stubs as a result. Nothing is obscure on Fark and you shouldn't just assume you're better and/or know more than everybody else.

Having said that, this is my favorite modern/old style collaboration.

I'll give you that. this one is much better (^)

God she's a cutie..
I'd like to get between her and Amy Lee and let them both whisper naughty things to me.

Tom's voice is really cool on this song.

It's hardly up to the original, is it?

As a huge Heads fan, I was sooooo ready to hate that.

But I loved it!

I always felt that the original could have used some horns, so it was especially cool in that respect. And Christ, that man's voice could blow the paint off of a school bus. He makes Dio sound like Cat Stevens.

David Bowie and Bing Crosby's "Peace on Earth"

/Favorite Christmas song
//Except for "Christmas in tha Hood"
///youtubey, the originals are there, but they all have 4 min of schlocky xmas special attached.
////Pops! SFW, etc.

1) That's a better version that the Heads'; lyrics are still way
stupid tho'.

2) TJ brings it but this video just reaffirms my dislike for
The Cardigans

3) Bing and Bowie? That song is suckage in the extreme.

afghanwhiggle 2008-06-24 10:56:45 PM
I gotta say, the way they utterly murdered that song was impressive.

Christian Bale 2008-06-25 12:22:55 PM
I love her voice, but I really wish he just sang this by himself. He does such a great job that all she accomplishes is removing parts he would otherwise be singing.
