because the tigers you find people selling for "pets" are not a pure species of tiger, they are not "siberian" or whatever. It's like a Tiger Mutt. If there was just one kind of tiger it wouldn't be an issue if they bred, but these are Mutt tigers, usually also from a small gene pool and aren't going to be able to contribute positively to any sort of lineage that may be in danger.

Possibly because they are mixed species, Panthera tigris altaica (Siberian) and Panthera tigris bengalensis (Bengal Tiger). Not mention that Bengal have been mismanaged for years. Must have those white tigers ya know cause there just so darn cute... sorry had swallow the bile that was percolating in my mouth. From TFA I get the impression these were Bengal and not Amur Tigers.

OK they weren't "selling the tigers in a parking lot". A reader can think the cubs were being offered to any passers by for sale.

This deal had already been arranged, they were just transferring them to the customer there.

They were idiots. Much better to have had the customer meet them at the breeder's location.

the brownsville zoo is kind of a trip, you are up higher that the animals and there is a big ditch between you and the animals, but drawing a straight line eye to eye you are pretty close to them.
When I went there we smoked a ton of green plant in the parking lot and then went in....not a good idea.
there was a last of its species there, some kind of gazelle, totally alone in its habitat- sad.
the gorilla was super bored, rolled over, SIGHED, and looked me right in the eye. very sad.

that zoo bummed me out....

I was expecting the headline to reference "ugly-ass," which would have made it "ugly-ass clown," not "ugly ass-clown." Which reminded me of this.

I work at a zoo, and one reason why they sterilize animals that are endangered is because there may not be enough genetic diversity to breed those particular animals. Rather than inbreed, sometimes zoologists will breed subspecies in order to keep some of the endangered bloodline still in existence. I'm not sure if this is the reason here, but it is one explanation.
