My father used to take my brother and me to Harmon's when we were kids. Greasy grill, flattened burgers, too much celery salt.

They were awesome. I'll have to take a road trip and bring my son down there soon.

The article is suspect. Heck, they left out one or more, states and .as always, it is the urban centers that get the nod. I'm not saying the article is wrong, just poorly done.

Heck, I make a pretty good burger. They didn't stop by my house, or even my state.

Who goes to New England for a burger? It's all about the clam chowda up there.

Captain Parker's in W Yarmouth, MA FTW!

Heh, New Englanders do. Heck, for those of us that fly it is known as the $100.00 dollar burger.

"Hey, where ya wanna fly to? Let's get a burger!"

Jeez, you have no idea how much I hate to recommend a $23 burger.

http://www.dressingroomhomegrown.com/

Paul Newman's restaurant has the most amazing burgers I have ever tasted. I used to work there, and I brought my parents once for a dinner on the house (they never would have spent the money to eat there.) I told my dad to not look at the menu, just get the burger--it's that good.

I was all set to see Louis on here and came in to biatch about Ted's not being on the list. First on the list? WIN. Anyone that's never had a steamed burger doesn't know what they're missing or why they're soooooo good. New England doesn't always suck, and the fact that where I live I can go to the original hamburger joint, some of the oldest and best pizza joints, fresh seafood... screw you all, I'm going out to eat.

Ah, Louis' Lunch. They put up signs so you know not to ask for ketchup. Ask for ketchup and they throw your ass out.

Nothing says friendly like New England burger nazis.

Going to New England for a good burger is like going to Japan for good Tex-Mex.

everlastinggobstopper 2008-06-22 01:02:41 PM
They opened a Five Guys here in State College so I went there a couple of times to see what all the hullabaloo was all about. Meh. Theyre good, but theyre expensive and took forever to get done.

In N Out. Period.

Lt. Cheese Weasel: Going to New England for a good burger is like going to Japan for good Tex-Mex.

FAIL.

I can think of a number of places just in New Haven that made some of the best hamburgers I've had, and I've lived all over. Not to mention the pizza.

Flat Patties in Harvard Square at "The Garage" sells awesome burgers.

img.epinions.com

Wild Willy's in Watertown (down the street from Toyota of Watertown) sells good burgers too, and awesome fries.

This list fails. Places that don't offer condiments made the list? Where are we, Communist China?

As a Boston resident, I thoroughly disapprove of Uburger being listed as one of our best. The article pretty much has it right, but comes to the wrong conclusion: they make a better version of a fast food hamburger. I was psyched when I first drove past and saw it, and couldn't wait to try them. I was expecting something amazing, and I ended up with a Wendy's burger. I'm still bitter.

Good onion rings though.

Yeah, but there's no such thing as In N Out in New England. There's also no White Castle, and no Sonic drive-ins either.

Your post made me look up something. Christina Applegate was only 16 when that show started and was a sex symbol from the beginning. Nowadays that prick Hanson would be breaking in.

Oregon's close enough to maybe drive for a burger. I live in the freaking Bahamas!

TeddyRooseveltsMustache: Yeah, but there's no such thing as In N Out in New England. There's also no White Castle, and no Sonic drive-ins either.

True. I'll have to go NE to see if these burgers can compete.

/Sorry for the threadjack. I get all excited about hamburgers. And fries. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmfriiiiiies...

Newman's DAUGHTER owns the restaurant. Overpriced hometown food.
$20 for some OK Pot Roast. Average portions, not so great selection of meals, but good wine list. Still overpriced.

For the local Trendoids...

We have Burgerville over here. It's a regional chain, but they have the best burgers. Grain fed free roaming beef, locally baked buns, Tillamook Cheese, Walla Walla Sweet Onion rings, seasonal fresh fruit in the shakes.

It costs more, but it's worth it.

Didn't realize Rhode Island and New Hampshire produced no burgerage ....

Haven't tried their burgers yet but I plan to make a trip at some point. The world record burger place. Denny's Beer Barrel Pub (new window)

Five Guys? Not quite. Fuddruckers? No way. Fatburger? Maybe. In n Out? Yep.

But I still prefer going to mom n pop shops for my burgers.

/Ann's Snack Bar for the win.

the article is just including a few local examples from the book, as it's featured on the new england.com website.
