I went into this expecting to hate it. I mean, c'mon, Snoop Dog trying to pull off a country/rap hybrid? Maybe that's why I ended up thinking it worked.

lcmino 2008-06-22 03:28:29 AM
This was pretty cool, but country-rap hybrids also have a dark side.

Big & Rich f. Cowboy Troy Link (new window)

David Allan Coe
(new window)

Trace Adkins (new window)

So basically, just quit while you're ahead Snoop, it can go bad pretty quick.

DaCricket [TotalFark] 2008-06-22 03:31:28 AM
Okay, that was weird. Not bad just...weird.

/Annnnd it's gonna be stuck in my head the rest of the night.

Big & Rich f. Cowboy Troy

NOT a Big & Rich video. And what's wrong with that song?

David Allan Coe

Yeah. The man is waaaaay to old and slow to try to rap.

Trace Adkins

That's not a rap its a two-step. (yea ok, you can two-step to damn near anything, but this is a fast two step, NOT a rap)

lcmino 2008-06-22 04:00:45 AM
DaCricket: NOT a Big & Rich video. And what's wrong with that song?

The song was Rollin' by Big & Rich f. Cowboy Troy wherein he drops some of the worst lines ever written an excerpt:

Dum-diggity-dum, diggity-diggity-dum dig this
Slicker than the grease from a BBQ Briskit
Got more chunk than a fresh potato salad

6 foot four with a cowboy hat
I dont mess around, yo what's up with that
I'm cowboy troy, a texas hick
And I'm rollin with the brothers
Big and Rich

The rest of his shiat is just as bad or worse.

I can agree with your points on the Trace Adkins song, but damn it's still horrible.

Yeah I know, I was just pointing out the video you linked is not their video, just someone's homemade stuff.

/I don't mind the song, probably because it never got a lot of airplay compared to 'save a horse, ride a cowboy'

Peaceboy [TotalFark] 2008-06-22 04:15:48 AM
I didn't dislike that, either.

He says "Whitey Ford on guitar", would that be Everlast? Everlast somewhat bridged a gap between hip-hop and folky-country.

I knew Snoop was hanging out recently with Willie (there was a Fark link a few weeks ago with pics of them together), so, good on them.

k, I didn't really watch the video, my bad, apparently it got pulled since I linked it.

That's what I was wondering, but I couldn't really tell from the video

I knew Snoop was hanging out recently with Willie

*snork* Can you imagine the size of the cloud? Everyone within a 3 mile radius was probably stoned outta their minds.

As has Kid Rock.

/He may be a total weenie, but the boy really can sing when he wants to.

f'shizzle, y'all.

I missed that earlier link -- Willie never ceases to amaze me. This was pretty great. Daddy needs his medicine... words to live by.

That's why some of the video was shot in Amsterdam.

The Gentleman Caller 2008-06-22 07:24:06 AM
well snoop did kill a man, so maybe Cash woulda maybe dug it.

It is. I didn't watch the video again so I can't remember, but he might be covered up in bandanas like he is with his newest hip hop group La Coka Nostra.

oasics 2008-06-22 08:13:55 AM

Sounds a lot like Outkast, especially when you see and hear this (new window).

NOT A RICK ROLL

There is no god.

Arn_Dee 2008-06-22 09:11:08 AM

Numbat 2008-06-22 09:43:33 AM
I think I'm with everybody else on this one. By all rights, that should have been terrible, but it was actually an enjoyably quirky little song. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Shorty Longstrokin 2008-06-22 10:37:29 AM
Snoop should release a whole album of country music covers and country-inspired songs with guests straight outta Nashville:

Willie Nelson
Tim McGraw
Randy Travis
Carrie Underwood
etc.

Too bad Johnny Cash isn't still around...

"How high is yo' daddy, mama? She said he's three tokes high and risin'."

RareChimer 2008-06-22 10:47:47 AM
Sounds like Snoop discovered late nineties alternative rock.

I liked it.

More please.

Maybe when Robert Plant goes off to do the Zeppelin reunion, Snoop can work with Allison Krauss.

I liked it...freshing. Snoop did give props to Cash in the past.

It's no Cotton Eye Joe.

El Morro 2008-06-22 11:57:48 AM
Well, that was... interesting...

/not bad, but not all that good. Mediocre?

Stradavus 2008-06-22 01:08:35 PM
Surprisingly, that was better than most country music being produced these days.

/maybe it's not surprising

For drizzle.

What does Snoop Dogg use to wash his whites?

Bleotch.

ekdikeo4 2008-06-22 03:29:04 PM
Not only was that better than most country, it was also better than most rap.

So, take two awful things, merge them together, and get something that's not half bad?

plywoodjungle 2008-06-22 04:06:26 PM
I'm still not understanding why I really liked that.

TheJoe03 [TotalFark] 2008-06-22 04:33:15 PM
That was a trip, but I liked it.

Great_Milenko 2008-06-22 04:34:03 PM
Not bad. Unlike Kid Rock, he's not dumb enough to start doing country all the time.

And now for something completely hideous:

Stradavus: Surprisingly, that was better than most country music being produced these days.

Sure, because what is pushed out of the record labels as country is pretty much generic crap. Currently popular country is pretty cheesy and formulaic.

galactus5000 2008-06-22 05:32:22 PM
I'm confused - two things that I hate (Snoop and modern country) together and I kinda like it.

/I call it the Mashup Effect.

GoodasGold 2008-06-22 05:39:52 PM
Great American music. Snoop FTW.

WhyteRaven74 [TotalFark] 2008-06-22 05:51:37 PM
That is just all kinds of awesome. Say what you will, but Snoop knows what he's doing. Wether it's picking up 70's funk and soul, or now country.

Tony Stark 2008-06-22 05:56:38 PM
I'm going to have that goddamn hook in my head for the next week
