Actually, no.
I'm just a Communist.
It seems to be the way the USA is heading anyway.
let's see, who controls the press?
and what happens if you protest nowdays?
of course, you could use the popular vote...
wait, no, that doesn't really work.
Then there's all the money I earn to give to the shiftless, lazy, breeders in public housing. My health insurance will cover anything my coworkers need or want, but nothing I would have.
Yeah, that's pretty much Amerika, Komrad.
Enjoy it. And that Social Security.

Doing something meritorious justifies promotion. So if, say, instead of taking infants in her arms and feeding them she selflessly threw herself breast first onto dangerously starving babies it would have been based on bravery, not good works?

Also expecting in September. Didn't realize breastfeeding would last about two years. Yowza.

Someone else posted this in a thread ages ago. It made me chuckle:

It lasts as long as you make it last. There's no requirement to breastfeed for two years but the longer you do it, the better off you and the baby are!

EIP if you have any questions!

I'm pretty sure it's unusual to be breastfeeding two years after birth. Six months is usually the average attempted weaning time

/based on hearsay, not real factual evidence
//had two younger brothers

I always wondered why more women didna breastfeed, along with all the benefits to the child, it burns an estimated 500 extra calories a day. You could eat an extra McD's cheeseburger a day, or not and lose baby weight slowly and in a healthy fashion. and it's free. Dammit it just makes more sense.

Cheers.

Also it passes on antibodies to the child so if mother has cold/flu/whatever the baby gets the antibodies and doesn't catch it nearly as often or gets over it very very quickly. My son didn't need a single trip to the doctor for a sick visit until long after I weaned.

nads0 2008-06-22 01:22:59 AM
Many doctors recommend breastfeeding until 2 years old because that is when a child's immune system is fully developed. Boobjuice is the best thing for a child to help strengthen their immune systems

I got curious and started looking up articles on breastfeeding (new window).

You should nurse your baby as long as it's working for the two of you. Both the World Health Organization and Canadian Paediatric Society now recommend that babies be given breastmilk exclusively for six months with complementary foods added at that time. Then they recommend continuing to breastfeed for the baby's first year and beyond. LaSalle points out that the average weaning age in the world is four years old and cites the benefits of nursing an older baby, which may include a decreased risk of obesity, diabetes, eczema and night blindness, as well as lower cholesterol and decreased risk of heart disease. "The long-term effects carry on into adulthood," she says.

//I can do a year. Maybe I can do 2. Four? No frickin way.

Seems like she went above and beyond the duties of her job to provide life-saving assistance to the public during a time of crisis.

Isn't that exactly the sort of thing we give promotions (and in the military, medals) for? If she doesn't deserve a promotion for that, what the hell WOULD be worthy of a promotion.

serial_crusher: ummu: What's wrong here?

It's not. Here's why - To say it is sexism is to assume no male officers were promoted because they couldn't breast feed, which is ridiculous.

Furthermore, the story doesn't address the likelihood that many male officers were also promoted for their contrbutions.
