Well somtimes the light goes off the arm comes down and i dont see the train so i just go around ... Cant go around?? just drive through them theyre only 2x4s painted with chinese lead paint. One time the guy following me got it but he was just not fast enough

A couple of years back a grandma here in CT was driving her grandkids to school and did that. It was clear the gates hadn't malfunctioned. She killed her damned fool self, but killed her grandkids as well.

Slow moving traffic, I stop. Not on the train tracks. Idiot behind me expects me to move up. fark him, I let him wait. He is blocking the cross street paralell to the tracks, cars honking at him. Not my problem, I let him wait until I can move up without being on tracks. At which point he moves up, stopping on the tracks.

It would have been funny if a train came then, but no such luck. But Darwin will get him eventually. Someone stupid enough to stop on train tracks deserves to get killed.

I saw a tractor trailer get hit by a train at an ungated crossing once. It was freaking more awesome than this, and the driver survived. His cab got drug a good ways though. Fortunately for him it hit the flatbed trailer. I couldn't believe it when he pulled out, the train was in plain sight.

I live near some tracks where the trains only go 30mph and there is a clear view for a good 100 yards on either side.

I beat the train all the time, but I wouldn't try it at 99% of the crossings in town.

I responded to a road grader vs. train Thursday. Unimproved crossing, Weld County (CO) public works guy was grading the road, apparently never saw it coming. Threw him and the grader about 175 feet. Made it to the hospital via chopper, but died later.

Not a pleasant afternoon.

I have never felt sorry for anyone that gets hit by a train.

I like within a quarter mile of a track. With windows shut, while watching TV, I can still notice the train sound.

How do you not notice them when you are AT the track??!!

It amazes me to consider the idiots who think they can beat a train. That said, I have crossed through the barriers once.

This was near Palmdale, CA, with my mother in the passenger seat, on our way to visit my brother. I was the third car in line at the stop when the arms came down. Everybody waited patiently. No train. We kept waiting and waited a bit more. Still no train. After five minutes of this the first car backed up a little, then proceeded diagonally through the barrier. The second car waited another three minutes before doing the same. He disappeared into the distance still no train had appeared.

We waited another five minutes and I declared my intent to go through as the other cars had done before us. Mom was horrified. I told her to look both ways and note that it was a long straight stretch of track on a cloudless day. We could easily see a mile in either direction. A train would have to be going impossibly fast to approach and reach us before we got through.

I got moving while Mom covered her face in her hands. I waited until the bumps told her we were smack dab in the middle of the track, then issued forth a scream of utter terror. She in turn released her own scream of terror and looked up to see... nothing.

We finished crossing the tracks and were at my brother's house a few minutes later.

She still gives me a smack when I tell that story.

You still hear 'em? I live one block away and I don't even notice the train sounds anymore (I still stop and look).

I heard a trash truck get t-boned by a train, I turned and looked to see a nine ton vehicle flipping thru the air. Lawyers for both sides called me to testify in the resulting lawsuit, but when they learned how close I live to the tracks, they new I wouldn't have been able to say for certain whether or not the engineer had sounded his horn.
