Considering he's just a crazy dude living in a tent on a tiny island and the Royal Marines' Marching Band's glockenspiel section could successfully retake it, I doubt the Queen is shivering in her royal knickers.

/or maybe blockade him with a couple of zodiacs

Dispatch the Royal Navy. Her Majesty's Government must bring the wayward province back to within the Empire.

After tea, of course.

2.5 acre island. you couldn't even fire a slingshot without the projectile going over the border.

Just dispatch Camilla. She'll feel right at home with the ponies.

I'm expecting him to exchange ambassadors with Sealand soon.

Crazy old fart or not, I find it highly amusing that he appears to have a legal argument that has some meat to it within the context of the monarchy.

As long as there's Wi-Fi, i'm there.

You sure don't want a Shetland pony. They are the meanest animals on the planet. My Shetland pony we had when I was a kid threw me twice, stepped on my mom's feet, bit my sister's ear (3 stitches) and kicked our other horse so often it wouldn't go near the damn thing.

The only reason Cape Buffalo are more feared is because they weigh two tons and Shetland ponies are around 500 lbs. But I bet one pony could take out a herd of buffalo if it wanted to.

I have a cape buffalo head hanging on my basement wall, so I am getting a kick out of this reply.

This reminds me of that small island 200 meters off the coast of Morocco? which is claimed by Spain. iirc it is only the size of a few tennis courts. A few years ago, four Moroccan soldiers camped on the island and raised a Moroccan flag. So Spain sent a couple of destroyers.....

In a declaration on his Web site, Stuart Hill, who owns the 2.5 acre island

No one should even be allowed to OWN an island that size. It should be a wildlife refuge.

Tell me, when does the collectivization start again? I don't want to be in the Ukraine this time around.

frostyservant 2008-06-22 02:29:36 AM
Being a Crown Dependency isn't quite independence. It just means that the Queen rules the island separately from the United Kingdom (and, hence, the Queen's government of the UK lacks jurisdiction).

Nice try, McCarthy. Little rocks like the TFA mentions get acquired through eminent domain all the time. You knew that, right?

Considering this is the Scotland, I'm sure they've had a few hundred years to sort all that out. How about you come back with a legitimate reason to seize property, you know, something other than the sudden priority of birds.

It is a legitimate reason, it is not a "sudden priority," and how 'bout you come back when you know what you're talking about?

Which should be awhile.

According to whom is it a legitimate reason? Anarcho-syndicalist? Have the British suddenly opted for the creation of nature preserves with all of their coastal islands? I think you've allowed your hatred for the private ownership of property to get the better of you.

FTA:Hill, 65, has lived in the Shetland Islands on the edge of the Atlantic since 2001, when his boat capsized there during an unsuccessful attempted to circumnavigate Britain.

He is Forvik's only resident, and his home is a tent on the storm-battered island. He says on his website that he plans to create Forvik's own currency -- the "gulde" -- print his own stamps and raise his own flag.

Does anyone reading this live in (or know someone who does) in one of those small countries? For example: Isle of Man, Monaco, Switzerland, Andorra, etc?

I would love to visit, even possibly live in such a place for some time. I really don't know why. Something about living in a small yet (at least) modestly developed country is intriguing. Your country is so small that no one gives a shiat what you do. Plus it is cute.

Never lived in one of those small countries, but I did live in Shetland. My brother still does.

Switzerland is huge compared to thoes other countries and I wouldn't put it on the tiny list.
I went to Andorra (tax free smokes and drink ftw) and Livigno (part of Italy but also tax free and kind of seperate) to ski and they were both great.
Andorra has a cool Catalan independent spirit about it and I smuggled enough cheap cigarrettes and liquor home to set up a bar. Good times.

You forgot Poland.

At least, judging by your "size" acumen (lumping Switzerland together with the others), or idea of country (Isle of man is a Crown dependency but but foreign relations, defence, and ultimate good-governance of the Isle of Man are the responsibility of the government of the United Kingdom; Andorra is more of a country except defence is in the hands of France and Spain).

Switzerland is much larger, completely independednt and self-sufficient (putting it mildly), and has a heck of military too.

The Swiss Army's tiny little scissors brigades are truly a force to be reckoned with.
