Probably not. Most Americans think Springsteen's "Born in the USA" is a patriotic anthem.

They make it sound so innocent, like that's all they're doing. But if you don't give up after listening to hours of teletubbies, that's when they start in with the cattle prods and anything else that won't leave a permanent mark.

pub·lic·ly - 1: in a manner observable by or in a place accessible to the public.

The music isn't being played in a location accessible by the public.

After the steroid abuse scandal amongst the Abu Ghraib Interpretive Dance team sent their competitive cheer-leading hopes up in smoke, efforts were focused upon the Gitmo Water Ballet Troupe to prepare for the "2008 Dance-Off and Wakeboarding Finals" in the Philippines later this year...

The difference being they were trying to smoke Noriega out.

I'm pretty sure they didn't persist once he was taken into custody.

Back in the day when I went through RT we were stuffed in a box and subjected to hours and hours of this kind of thing. Mostly it was extremely loud baby cries, the "Chicken Dance Song" and a dramatic reading of a Rudyard Kipling poem. The order they were played and length of each was varied.

There's no Queen music that would make someone go crazy.

Except maybe the guitar solo in "Sheer Heart Attack" looped over and over again.

I think they just show up at work with whatever they're listening to at the time. There's no shortage of metal-heads in the army, that's for sure. These guys who are going into battle, they're not listening to Elton John beforehand."

not so obscure.

How some bored soldiers came up with David Gray's song Babylon, played at Abu Ghraib jail in Iraq, defies analysis.

After a few plays of that turgid crap, I'd 'fess up.

Does the artist get royalties for that sort of thing ? I remember during the Branch Davidian seige the FBI played Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made For Walking" until they commited suicide.

Choice C is treat them like American prisoners. That means they get occasional beatings, great drugs and inter-prisoner anal rape. Not so bad, really.

Same here. At one point, they were playing some god-awful song (still don't know what it was, but it was bad), the guy in the box next to me whispered,"at least it can't get any worse." About five seconds later, the music stopped, and replacing it was that alarm sound from early digital alarm clocks (which continued for about 2-3 hours).

It's not torture without the following:

"Mmm-Bop" by Hanson
"Barbie Girl" by Aqua
"My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion (which makes me hurry up and get out of the grocery store ASAP, every time)

And, of course:

"Hit Me Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears.

FunkOut [TotalFark] 2008-06-21 12:14:51 PM
That is weird. I've been using Queen to get my baby to go to sleep. She seems to like "Bicycle Race".

I have an old tape I made when I was working a string of night shifts, trying to stay awake. It has Raffi's Bananaphone album on one side, and Aqua on the other. The object was to annoy the hell out of myself so I couldn't doze off. It worked.
