McCain comes off terrible in this article, and it's made all the worse by the fact that Obama knew better.

Benevolent Misanthrope [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 11:44:40 PM
David Roederer, who chairs McCain's campaign in Iowa, said McCain's trip didn't hamper Iowa's recovery operation. He said McCain proceeded with the visit because the campaign was providing much of its own security.

But not all.

"There was really no state resources diverted," Roederer said.

They was all taken up with the security fer President Bush.

You know with all the widespread looting thats going on here how could he expect us to pull our police for even a moment to secure him? Whatta ya mean there isn't any looting?

Nevermind.

This is the kind of situation where you try to avoid getting stuck making excuses. That's just amateurish.

Well, there might have been some ATTEMPTED looting, but they won't find the bodies until the water fully recedes.

Wow, I guess the USA TODAY FAILS.

On the way home from work I was listening to my XM radio when I picked up an interview with the Mayor of Columbus Junction, IA (the very city in this article). He said directly that the McCain campaign staff talked to him personally and asked if it was ok. They told him that they wouldn't come if they would be in the way or cause problems. The Mayor said it was all fine and told them to come.

Note that the Governor or Iowa, Chet Culver, is an extreme idiot and a major Democrat party boy. This smells pretty bad of him trying to stir stuff up that didn't happen.

Bottom line, I heard the interview direct from the mayor of the city McCain visited say clearly that HE told the McCain camp to come and that it was all right and that they specifically told the mayor that they wouldn't come unless it was ok.

Story over. No story, except that Culver is a class A **shole

Culver is a serious idiot.

Other than that, I just hate to see stuff blown up out of proportion like this.

Frankly, I thought that the stupid women in headscarves issue about Obama was idiotic too. The people handling the crowd like that are the lowest ones there and probably thought they were "helping" when they caused the whole thing. I seriously doubt that they were acting on direct orders from Obama.

So, partisan? I hate Culver, but other than that fair is fair. I don't blame Obama for things like that and I actually heard the interview with the Mayor of that city, so I know for a fact that Culver is full of crap when he said they asked McCain not to come.

Yeah, basically the Democratic governor wanted to keep McCain out, so that they could use "McCain doesn't care" as a talking point later.

But McCain knew better and did the right thing.

Remember the "McCain prays/Obama helps" headline on here from an Obamacrat?

When Obama shows up, it's great. But now when McCain shows up.

Obama was calling for help, and actually helping, while the floods were at a high point. McCain shows up after the floodwaters are beginning to recede, as evidenced by NOAA here. Why wasn't McCain trying to help while the floodwaters were rising?

No, what you said was the mayor of some town said come on out, while the farking governor was asking both Obama and Mccain not too.

Governor = !mayor.

In fact Governor > Mayor.

The only reason you seem to be supporting the mayor is exactly what others are pointing out. Partisan politics. Since the governor is an 'idiot' democrat, who gives a fark when he ask people who can't help not to divert the people that can to silly tasks that serve no purpose but to bolster his own ego.

OK here is the text from FOX News:

David Roederer, who chairs McCain's campaign in Iowa, said McCain's trip didn't hamper Iowa's recovery operation. He said McCain proceeded with the visit because the campaign was providing much of its own security.

"There was really no state resources diverted," Roederer said.

The mayor of Columbus Junction, Dan Wilson, agreed.

"Certainly, Mr. McCain's visit today in no way hindered any relief efforts or any of our efforts on recovery or security or whatever we were working on," Wilson said. He said McCain's staff called him Wednesday night and Thursday to be sure the visit would not cause a problem.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama canceled a scheduled visit to eastern Iowa last week at the request of state officials.

When a Republican president wipes his ass with the Constitution, some of us tend to get a little mad. If you're not mad, you're not paying attention.

We can't afford another Bush. Our country is in trouble. That much is evident.

Don't get mad at us Democrats, we try to be civilized in our discourse, but some people COUGHMCCAINDEMOCRATCOUGH really have no clue whats going on, and we have to lay down our logic a bit more forcefully at times.

See, heres the thing. It shows just how blinded you are by your own partisanship. When any president wipes his ass with the constitution you should be mad. You should be mad because he wiped his ass with the constitution, but not because he was a Republican. Republican shouldn't even be in that sentence. Republican should not even be on your mind as he does that, because there are both republicans and democrats who are scum. At the federal level, yeah, republicans are far dirtier than democrats, and the local level is far too varied to make any generalization. But that doesn't mean that the D next to your name makes you a saint or innocent, yet Democrats treat other Democrats like they're joined at the hip.

The fact that this needs to be explained shows how well the Republicans and Democrats have divided the sheeple up.

Also, the Swift Boat Vets are to Kerry as ads like this are to Obama.

They're going at this question from such a great perspective that the Obamacrats will fall into the trap by either

a) screaming racism over a non-racist ad
b) downplaying an ad which builds on previously downplayed but effective e-mails about Obama

You all have a problem on your hands, and you can't do a thing about it since Obama has failed to be straightforward about his history in Indonesia.

Oh, the true stories about his shortcomings and dishonesties have started getting press, and the Democrats are pretending they're false? Again?

The "Obama was never Muslim" line, for example, was false, and when called on it, the lefties started screaming "Swiftboat," even though it was, technically, true. The Obama campaign could have avoided the whole problem by admitting that he was born and (at least a little bit) raised with some Muslim religious training, but instead went with the simple (but false) line. This way, it left the door open for faked-up stories by the crazies.

It's "Christmas in Cambodia" time again. I'm sure it was "seared, seared" in Obama's memory...

You need to remember that the actual Swiftboat claims were either true, or never actually proven false by the Kerry campaign. Like "Christmas in Cambodia" (a Kerry story that he'd been using for years, but which was absolutely, completely, stupidly made up)...

The biggest issue (Kerry's records, which he promised to release) never saw any sort of resolution at all (after several promises, the records? Still secret, except for some very trivial stuff that didn't bear on his real claims).

That was my master plan all along. Back in 2003 I knew that this guy in the Illnois State Senate would go on to win the Democratic nomination for President one day. So I made my Fark account. Biding my time in boobie and anime threads I patiently waited until that one day when Obama would finally capture the nomination and I could active myself as a Freeper Agent.

Now you caught me I'm going to have to go back to Freeperland and admit my failure. I hope the punishment isn't 20 minutes in the closet with Cheney again.

Its frustrating because I live in Michigan (Two D Senators, D Governer, has gone Democratic since Reagan left office IIRC), in a district that has been democratic for years and years, and am liberal in my ideas. But the second I suggest people stop bickering about party affiliation and start actually working, everyone gets their panties in a bunch.

I wish that the "lol internet" clause applies, but thats how it happens in face-to-face conversations too. There are so many things wrong with this country right now, yet people like Sabyen think politics and government is a game where they pick a side and show how cool they are by throwing out personal insults.

We deserve the government we get when we act like this.
