The only thing George Bush did right for this country was ensure that democrats will be in power for a very long time.

//remembers telling Republicans in 2000 that they were making a bad decision
//gloating in the fact that I was right

Yeah? Well both parties screwed the pooch this time.

We're so doomed.

According to a poll yesterday, he's up by 12 in Pennsylvania, which was supposed to be full of Hillary supporters who would rather see McCain in office than Obama. I wonder if concern troll is still concerned.

A lot can happen before November, but this is shaping up to be a farking landslide. Not a 49 state Reagan style landslide, but it could be epic.

Polls in June matter soooo much too.

Hugick points out that in May 1988 when the primaries ended, Democrat Michael Dukakis enjoyed a 54 percent to 38 percent lead over George H.W. Bush. But Bush wound up winning handily.

Never mind that not one other poll has shown Obama leading by over 10. Much less 15.

Hope Unity Change, eh?

Defections to McCain by Hillary Clinton supporters are also down significantly since she dropped out of the race and endorsed the Obama.

Dude, I like Barack, but come on... "The Obama"?

Polls are mostly worthless.
Polls before conventions are worse than that.
Polls with less than 900 participants are worth less than that.
Polls for a nationwide opinion when it's a state to state race are worth less than that.
Polls that interview registered voters instead of likely voters with all of the above factors have zero validity.

Haha. I was going to say the same thing. I don't mind these trolls though, because their the same morons who voted Bush into power the first time around and now have to fight tooth and nail to disguise the truth that this was and will probably be for a very long time THE WORST JOB ANYONE HAS EVER DONE AS PRESIDENT!

This is a nationwide poll. I don't even know why Newsweek wastes its money on them. They are meaningless.

Because they are a nice simple statistic that is easily understood and much less complex than the basic math skills needed to comprehend the electoral college projections, and hence they generate more readers/ratings/page clicks.

keylock71 2008-06-20 05:35:55 PM
Fairly meaningless right now...

I'm looking forward to the debates, myself. I think Obama's really going to put a hurting on McCain.

But, it's really still up in the air at this point, and considering the last two presidential elections my faith in my fellow Americans is significantly diminished.

DeltaXi65: This is a nationwide poll. I don't even know why Newsweek wastes its money on them. They are meaningless.

It's a conversation starter, a jumping off point. It's like when a sports radio guy says, "Who is the greatest athlete of all time?" It just gives people something to talk about. We are a country that can only think in terms of winning and losing. Polls provide us with the only "score". It doesn't matter how flawed they are, people still need a score to talk about.

Pssst. Obama's leading there too.

CravenMorehead 2008-06-20 05:37:09 PM
Polling at this point is meaningless. Let's see some Town Hall meetings and a couple debates first.

Of course, Obama will win in November and by one of the largest margins in recent history. McCain just won't be able to compete with him. Anyone that thinks McCain has any chance of winning is delusional.

keylock71: I'm looking forward to the debates, myself. I think Obama's really going to put a hurting on McCain.

I don't know. Obama has shown some debate problems. McCain can play the "folksy" role well enough to come out ahead in debates, which have nothing to do with substance and are all about looking presidential. Obama is by far the better speaker with a script, but his impromptu sessions lead to a lot of "uh" and "uhm". McCain has no idea how to sound genuine on rehearsed words, but he can (and I stress CAN) sound good off the cuff. In depends on the debate style, the questions and things like that. I feel that neither will really come out of the debates looking any better than when they came in.

kronicfeld [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 05:41:46 PM
I don't see anything wrong with posting the results of a simple popularity poll. Of course, thereafter using that poll as an indicator of a particular outcome in a process that is more particularized than overall popularity would be a stroke of idiocy at best, and disingenuousness at worst.

That's fine, but I was just saying why the media seem to obsess with these nationwide polls that have little do do with what numbers really count.

Lord of Allusions: Obama has shown some debate problems

Not to mention that the expectations game is in McCain's court, not Obama's court. Although Obama is very gaffeprone for someone who is supposedly a great speaker.

Barack Obama is to speaking as Hulk Hogan is to wrestling. They do the basics well, but when you script them, they can excel.

DeltaXi65 [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-06-20 05:44:38 PM
I understand that it's a conversation starter and an easy statistic, but they might as well be asking voters who has better fashion sense (Obama would lead there too).

It's dumb. It dumbs down the process because people who don't know any better think it matters.

DarnoKonrad 2008-06-20 05:44:46 PM
I don't care. Media can take their bait and shove it up their ass.

Don't disagree with that, but visually, McCain is going to look even older than he actually is standing next to Obama on a live broadcast with TV lighting (not the soft lighting they usually use in commercials).
