Does anyone get the feeling that the neo-con strategy this election is to throw McCain out there with the intent to see him fail so that they can then blame ot in McCain being a RINO and the fault was that he was just not conservative enough and that the party needs to return to it's good ol' George W. Bush ways.

Sorta, But I really get the feeling they're throwing him out there so that he'll lose. Then Obama will invariably fail a fixing the multitude of fark-ups he's been handed. Which will ensure another, even more conservative, prez in 2012 or 2016.

He definitely seems like an It's My Turn nominee, a la Dole 1996.

That is a pretty twisted and risky strategy... because there is always the chance that the person set up to fail actually succeeds.

And honestly the GOP is so horribly disorganized at this point, that a coherent national strategy is highly improbable.

Catching up to Obama? How odd of you to say that. Less that two weeks ago you were asserting that Obama's campaign was on the verge of bankruptcy and that McCain's campaign had more money than the Obama campaign....

McCainDemocrat 2008-06-11 08:35:25 PM
When you consider that Obama is spending $114 for every $100 he has, and his campaign is on the verge of bankruptcy.. it's going to get worse before it gets better for Obama.

The RNC and McCain have more money than the DNC and Obama.

My thinking? McCain is such a horrible candidate for the social conservative wing of the party, they will get disillusioned and stay home from voting. That way, the socially liberal/libertarian and economically conservative members of the Republican party can recapture the party's leadership and control and actually go back to being a respectable party.

One can hope, can't they?

Yeah, Republicans really are that Machiavellian smart. The whole 2006 election debacle was a key part of their master plan, and the upcoming 2008 rout is a red herring that will set them up for their eventual world domination.

What is McCain doing taking donations if he is so dead set on doing public funding for his campaign? Heck, what is he doing that he has been taking donations since February. Why is he making so much pancakes about Obama going back on his word when he himself never intended to take public funding himself?

Jacobin 2008-06-20 04:54:31 PM
I think McCain's biggest fear is that he will win and have to deal with the gigantic clusterfark he has helped to create these past few years. I fear that he will pull it off. All it will take is a few not so subtle "black dude" ads on TV that I'm sure Rove is cooking up in his cauldron, and it'll be "gee, we better vote for that old white dude"
