I like Jesse Ventura because he supports a third party, ANY third party.

At this point, I think I'd support the "I hate What_now" party, if only to break up the choke hold of the two party system.

I'm not from Minnesota but I liked Ventura's fiscally conservative socially liberal platform. After he was elected though I really didn't pay attention to how he ran the state. Except for one article that followed him around the capitol for a day.

How did he do Minnesotans?

Dr.Knockboots [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 11:16:33 AM
Jesse also thinks that the events from 9-11 were a government setup/conspiracy.
Yes.. he really does. Look up his Opie and Anthony interview.. a serious interview, and he was off his rocker.

Keep that in mind when you support him.

Gwendolyn - How did he do Minnesotans?

Not too bad. I don't think he was ready for the amount of politics involved in politics though. Meaning he got cock blocked a lot by both parties. The Republicans didn't play nice because he wasn't conservative enough & the Democrats didn't play nice because he was slashing taxes & fees left & right. Quite honestly, I feel they couldn't handle the fact that a former wrestling star, & an independent at that, had so much control.

He got into a bit of a pissing match w/ the local media. Especially the Mpls paper. They've got a pretty heavy bias. Although after Republicans swept the next election they wrote a somewhat sheepish article admiting his proposal would've balanced the budget & that a lot of his other proposals actually made sense, but partisan politics got in the way of what was best for MN.

Gwendolyn: How did he do Minnesotans?

He was a giant baby and mostly a distraction.

He got the fees for vehicle license plate renewals ("tabs" colloquially) lowered, which was part of his election campaign, for which I will always be grateful.

Other than that, he mostly whored for the press while always blaming the "MEAT-EEE-UH" for any problems, embarrassed himself and the state by making stupid comments on just about everything, and publicly ripped the legislature rather than trying to work with them.

It was a bit of a disappointment because his campaign platform was pretty good, I'd say he wasn't very effective, but not a total disaster.

I think we've seen enough of his crazy ass at this point though.

Hah! I did say he wasn't a total disaster.

And if you read what Bob said here:

BobtheFascist: I don't think he was ready for the amount of politics involved in politics though. Meaning he got cock blocked a lot by both parties. Not being ready "for the amount of politics involved in politics" is, IMO, stupid and what led to him being ineffective.

Basically he didn't negotiating with the legislature, he just whined like a baby when they didn't do exactly what he wanted them to do. Basically he thought, as Governor, he could rule by fiat, and was flummoxed when he found out the whole legislative body he ripped constantly were people he'd actually have to work with.

There was potential for him but I honestly think he set the third-party cause back many years. And he hopefully led people to question the potential effectiveness of someone who hates government running for a position in the government.

If I remember right, this was a while ago before I left MN, his underage son threw a kegger at the governor's mansion. So, yes he is presidential, assuming you are comparing to W and the First Twins.

If you want a president that spends his time refereeing WWE wrestling matches and whoring for speaking engagements and books, Jesse's your man.

The thing I dislike the most about him is that he had the chance to fundamentally change the way we do politics in this country, and make a third party candidacy be legit in the eyes of the electorate, and he chose to enrich himself and act the fool instead. What a disappointment.

I agree, he was expecting to just roll in there & say "Here's what I want. Make it happen." Although, I suspect a lot of the people that supported him kind of wanted that in the first place. I don't recall him being a big fan of bureaucracy. All things the same, neither am I. So I was happy to see him throw a wrench in the works, although I expected him to be a little more adult about the whole thing.

Hmmmmm but as a Senator he'd be one of the douche bags that would hold up the works. I dunno it doesn't sound like a bad option.

The similarities between ID proponents/creationists and 9/11 truthers are striking. Bring nothing new to the table, just poke holes in your own misunderstanding of the available evidence. They're the same animal to me.

Sum Dum Gai 2008-06-20 02:13:17 PM
Ventura had a pretty good platform and was actually pretty honest about it and worked to keep his campaign promises. He also was strongly against the "budget balancing" antics that went on -- the Democrats refused to cut services any farther, the Republicans refused to raise taxes, and since by its state Constitution, the budget must be balanced, the way they solved it was to re-project how much income they'd have until one of the projections was higher than their projected expenses. Then they declared it balanced without actually changing anything.

His big fault was that he was about as diplomatic as a lead pipe to the skull. He made it hard for anyone to work with him on anything.

I really like this guy every time I hear about him. He's obviously a little out there, but he's got some good views. I recently picked up a copy of Do I Stand Alone at goodwill and, while I haven't finished it yet, so far he's making some real sense.

Damnit! I wish balding men would accept that the Captain Piccard look is much more sexy than the Chuck Manjone look. If you're balding don't fight it. It's definitely one of those cases where less is more.
