Hey. Conservatives. What's so bad about religion and guns that the idea of clinging to them is somehow a scurrilous insult? "Cling" only has a negative connotation if you want it to.

Still haven't ever gotten and answer to that one.

Not that I expect anything more of the right than base petulance, given its track record.

Yea, it couldn't possibly be the fact that the two candidates are both turds. Couldn't be because they are pissed at the Republican party about nominating said turn either. They're bitter because they are going to loose. Yea, that's it.

I hope conservatives keep attacking people with "city values." The right wing seems to think that they have a lock on rural voters, and the best way to encourage those voters is to denigrate people who live in the cities and suburbs. Keep it up. It's not like those suburbanites will be insulted by the fact that you keep calling them godless traitors who hate America and who are inferior to rural folk.

Even so, if you think this country's going to elect another Republican after the last eight years, nothing *I* can say is going to touch delusion like that. Hell, Dr. Martin Luther Einstein Gandhi Hawking could run on the GOP ticket this year and still be trailing in the polls, so don't kid yourself.

Strong people don't cling to things. I agree to what Obama said and so do many of the people he was referring to. But it was not a compliment. It was more like sympathy.

I think it was the way it was said, in context. He said midwesterners clung to their religion and guns, and implied they weren't capable of grasping political realities. I doubt you actually missed the condescension in his tone.

Dude, this just isn't true. I see TONS of "Religion and Guns" rednecks, but not many real "Welfare and Peace" Hippies. The right has done a good job of turning anybody who says "This war is wrong", or "We need to do something about healthcare" into a "Welfare and peace" hippie. Its bullshiat and lies. The problems of this country can be traced back to a weak, fail filled press.

Maybe 'Peace and Welfare' Hippy was too broad a term. How about 'Peace at any Price' Hippies and 'Welfare' Queens. Those dependent on the government for their lifestyles are pretty reliably democrats.

Hippies don't care for or about welfare. Republicans are very big on welfare, for the corporations. So, might this read..

For every pro 'Religion and Guns and Corporate Welfare and insurance cheating and monster truck driving and W can do no wrong and beat up Sikhs because they look like sheiks' Redneck on the right there is a pro 'Peace and organics and um other organics and keep your government out of my patch and make my fuel from used grease' Hippy on the left.

I don't think you've ever even tried to get an answer to that. I think you're just too stupid to make a point without leaning on a cheap rhetorical device.
The "answer", of course, is that Obama meant it as an insult- whether I consider it an insult is a completely different issue.
