There's nothing to Swift Boat. Obama was too much of a pussy to join the service.

Let's be honest. This country is full of pussies that didn't or aren't going to serve. Which is why it's going to shiat.

burndtdan 2008-06-20 09:16:30 AM
See, there's three kinds of people: dicks, pussies, and assholes. Pussies think everyone can get along, and dicks just want to fark all the time without thinking it through. But then you got your assholes, Chuck. And all the assholes want us to shiat all over everything! So, pussies may get mad at dicks once in a while, because pussies get farked by dicks. But dicks also fark assholes, Chuck. And if they didn't fark the assholes, you know what you'd get? You'd get your dick and your pussy all covered in shiat!

"Honest"? I think that's bullshiat. Not wanting to serve in the military has nothing to do with being a "pussy". We're not going to shiat because people don't want to serve in the military.

I'd read that as comedy, and was going to congratulate you on a nice troll, but then I read what little information you had in your profile, and realize that you were probably serious, and that makes me sad.

Right, but the thing is- they're not running for election, a decorated war veteran is. Nice strawman, though.

you do realize the scenario that introduced the term "swiftboating" were those two men running against a decorated war veteran... right?

/Obama has served his country in other ways, for sure. Still, I bet a lot of people (read: old vets) will weigh millitary service as a factor for voting. And we know how old people vote. In the millions. They love those stickers

I agree with the premise. McCain's campaign has been more reactive than proactive (though they've had a few proactive moments).

I don't mean this snarkily (???), but it's an interesting case of role reversal between the parties. The Democrats are unifying and the Republicans are becoming the "big tent."

jesus you're dense.

i wasn't speaking about obama or mccain. i was discussing your defense of bush and cheney re: swiftboating and how discussion of them wasn't applicable because they aren't running, and that a war veteran is involved this time.

And I was pointing out the flawed logic in comparing him to someone who is not running, instead of the current candidate.

Not a defence of Bush & Cheney, I don't support them, did not vote for them. Merely stating that it would be more relevant to compare him to his opponent instead of two guys leaving office

except his party, and him especially, do not have the history of such attack ads. and TFA wasn't about him or his party. there is absolutely no basis to compare him to anything swiftboat related.

so not only is your argument stupid in that it tries to white wash bush and cheney, but it is unfounded in trying to turn the point of TFA around on the candidate for which it has no basis.

good job.

And a handful of well-funded Democratic third-party groups had already spent tens of millions of dollars at that point hammering Bush and the GOP.

Yeah, but that doesn't automatically make them leaders. My boyfriend's a veteran. I wouldn't want him ANYWHERE near power, because he would make bad driving a capital crime, and would probably punch any pundit who asked him if he "loved 'Merica" enough.

Military service is no longer an indicator of leadership, because we haven't gone though a period where EVERYBODY fights in a war, ala WW2.

Hey, if the War Hero John McCain was running for president, I'd
vote for him in a second.

Unforunately, we're getting the "Screw my principles, I'll cozy up

Service is admirable and should be encouraged, but it isn't the

That would explain why McCain lags behind in the polls.

Or why Kerry won the last election. Oh wait...

Wei Kai Xuan 2008-06-20 11:52:57 AM
Well even though TFA says no 527's are interested in running attack ads, they may be wrong. Not enough time has passed from when Obama had the Dem nomination sewn up till present day. People knew Kerry was the Democrat nominee for a while, because Dean screamed his ass out pretty early in the game.

5 months left, like the article indicates means nothing. I'd imagine 3 months left in the race all hell will burst open, and some of the ugliest things any human is capable of, will come out.

/I hope I am wrong.

GOP 1992- 2000: Clinton is a pot smoking national guardsman who pulled strings to avoid military service!!! This is terrible, he can't be president.

GOP 2001 - 2007: There are many ways to serve your country including service in the national guard, lack of real military experience is irrelevant. And don't ask about past drug use, that's too personal.

GOP 2008: Past drug use is bad again!! He didn't serve in the military!!! He's a pussy!!!

A decorated var veteran - oh, you mean like John Kerry, Bob Kerrey and Max Cleland.

I can see how the Republican Party is exactly the example I would use in this case.

Fred Thompson managed to get a deferment out of service during the Vietnam war.

Not to mention in the 2000 Primaries where McCain's POW status was used against him to insinuate he was brainwashed by his captors and would be the Manchurian Candidate.

This pretty much sums it up. I just wanted to Add:

GOP 2004: Military service is not that important. Flip-flopping is the most egregious sin that a presidential candidate can commit.

GOP 2008: Military service is the most important factor in determining a president. Flip-Flopping on key issues shows wisdom in the ace of adversity.
