i watched an interview of this guy where he was talking about this statement on al jazeera english last night (and thank you to the people who helped me figure out how to watch it).

first, the guy was being hammered already for basically being willing to bend over and take it without any lube from the US, didn't seem to see the problem with negotiating with an occupying army about how much longer they are going to occupy you, and surprise surprise, they get to stay longer. so already, he was showing himself to be a lackey at best, not the strongest mental giant, and seemingly all too willing to be george bush's biatch.

then he got to this part. honestly (and i was watching it specifically to see if obama had seriously told him that he wasn't really going to pull out), it was very, very, VERY clear that he was talking about obama's "not a precipitous withdrawal" caveat, which we already know about. he kept saying obama promised him they wouldn't make any sudden "decisions", but then kept slipping in that they wouldn't make sudden withdrawals, aka pull everyone out at once.

that's not waffling, he's been saying that from the very outset. sorry subby, you're gonna have to find something else.

I'm sitting here as an American voter, and I really just can't give a flying fark about what Hoshyar Zebari has to say about anything-- particularly his opinion is on what the United States should do with its military.

Wait, you're saying that the Subby is a lying twat? UNPOSSIBLE.

Me, I'm an old-school Republican. Which is to say: I absolutely can't stand the current Republican party. It's amazing to me how the party of Lincoln and Reagan has suddenly such a festering pool of hateful lunatics. It's like they've actually become what the Democrats used to be.

You Obamaniacs are so deluded. You think you're messiah is going to cure cancer and create world peace. Boy, are you fools in for a shock when you see hes just another politician. The idea that anyone has optimism is a mark of weakness. We should all be thankful we haven't had another 9/11. We certainly will if your deceitful "messiah" ever gets any power.

Vote for the party of no hope. Vote GOP.

I will get us out of Iraq in the first months of my presidency*

I will not raise taxes on Social Security**

I will balance the budget and provide healthcare for all and save social security and cut taxes on just the rich***

*Well some troops will come home, but not all, any maybe not right away
**Well I'll raise the cap which will effectively raise the SS tax on many people

***Ok there's no possible way I can balance the budget and provide all of the stuff I'm saying I will provide without raising taxes

It is like the roles have reversed. Carter was a negative, whiney little twat. Reagan brought hope and pride back the the people. The Republicans were the Can Do party and the Dems the Can Not (after Kennedy, of course). Now it is reversed.

So Obama is listening to all sides of a situation (even in this case Dumbya's Iraqi lapdogs), sticking with his reasoned "non-precipitous withdrawal" policy, and reserving the right to change his policy if new developments dictate.

HOLY shiat WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!11

Seriously, if we don't elect this guy president we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Why do conservatives keep saying Obama has 'no idea because he's never been to Iraq'? He has visited the country, you know. Just not in the last year that he's been campaigning.

Wow- a politician making campaign promises? And then someone mis-characterizing his positions? Shocking! (Hint- he ain't gonna cut taxes on the rich.)

But I've had this rant running through my head since I was in the shower this morning, and this seems like as good a place as any to put it. I am sick of the talking point that Obama is "just another politician". I'm prObama, at least for now. He could lose my vote by doing something stupid or evil.

But, speaking for Obama supporters, let me say this: we know he's a politician. That's who runs for Senate, that's who runs for President. We get it, he's a pol.

And, so far, he has had the best campaign I've ever seen in my life. Look at any attack levied against him. Either the response is so fast that it gets repeated in the same story as the attack, or, like Giuliani's comments, the political judo is unleashed making the attacker look like a hypocrite. He's surrounded himself with some damn competent political pros, and I think it speaks well of his judgment and executive ability.

Yes, he's "just" a politician. But saying that as a way to try and bother his supporters? That's ridiculous. It's like saying "Why would someone spend hundreds of dollars to see Led Zeppelin? They're just a band."

"Why would someone pay thousands of dollars to go to the Super Bowl? It's just a game."

"Why would someone want a Ferrari? It's just a car."

Answer- to all of the above, including Barack: Because some things are worth getting excited about.

//Sorry for the threadjack. Rant over.

Yup. He visited 871 days ago. The war has been going on for 1925 days, roughly.

About halfway through, if the war stopped today.

Somewhat of a threadjack, but if you have a dish, you may want to take a gander at Mosaic on LinkTV. The show's a weeknightly, half-hour compilation of newscasts from the Middle East translated into English. They grab feeds from a number of different stations, including Al Jazeera English.

And if you don't have a dish, they've got a pretty deep archive on their site.

/full disclosure: wife works there
//fuller disclosure: station is "teh librul"

He's spoken directly to Petraeus multiple times in the last 12 months...I'm not entirely convinced visiting a war zone really provides you any better of an idea of the status on the ground than talking to the commanders. It's not like he's going to be driving around without a massive escort and helicopters overhead.

McCain is trailing in nearly every poll that's come out in the past two weeks, neutral electoral vote trackers have him losing badly, and now he's found out he's going to be outspent 4-1 in this election and probably have to campaign in states like Alaska to keep them from flipping.

They'll be grasping at straws a helluvalot more flimsy than this one before it's over. The wonderful thing is they've resorted to incongruous arguments like this...and it's only June.
