No Thriller = FAIL

WhyteRaven74 [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 06:33:05 AM
Interesting they have two Mark Romanek and two Spike Jonez videos. also nothing from Eric Zimmerman, he did a couple of the early NIN videos, among a slew of others, and some of those would lend themselves to this kind of thinking.

WhyteRaven74 [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 06:33:46 AM
Also, no Tool videos? That's just a weird omission.

Tacoby Bellisbury 2008-06-20 06:48:32 AM
WTF???

Dare to Be Stupid would make a great movie.

ec1.images-amazon.com

Unright 2008-06-20 07:24:16 AM
Didn't Weird Al pretty much make a movie out of a music video when he made UHF?

reillan 2008-06-20 07:30:08 AM
Wow. Call me emo, but I was expecting at least something from 30 Seconds to Mars in there.

Skail [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 07:34:46 AM
Pearl Jam - Jeremy. But it would be really depressing.

Mr Tumnus: No Thriller = FAIL

Thriller Sucks, or maybe I'm just tired of that video being on EVERY "Best Video" list.

/this post in no way endorses a belief in the occult.

WhyteRaven74: Also, no Tool videos? That's just a weird omission.

Thats what I came in to say, but I think if Danny actually did make them into full length movies, we would have more people achieving transcendance or going mad in the effort.

Dusk-You-n-Me [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 08:21:45 AM
Unkle, Radiohead, and Sigur Ros? I like the list.

The Chemical Brothers have some awesome videos that could fit into movie form nicely.

Indigo_X 2008-06-20 08:28:25 AM
P. Diddy- Victory. Come ON, it's already halfway there. IT HAS DENNIS FREAKIN' HOPPER IN IT. Not to mention DeVito...

shivashakti [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 08:28:38 AM
I dig the Fatboy Slim video with Walken..but the song just seems so forgettable. If I heard it in a club or on the radio somewhere I don't think I'd even recognize it despite having seen the video several times.

Mr. Coffee Nerves [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 08:28:39 AM
What??? No "Mr. Roboto??" That video had everything!

If that had been a movie it would have unseated "Rocky Horror" as the ultimate midnight movie experience and possibly extended MST3K for years to come. Just imagine if Tor Johnson had been in it!

Setting Sun would be crazy.

monas 2008-06-20 08:58:24 AM
I don't think any of those videos, regardless of how good they are (A number are in my personal batch of favourite videos), would survive the 90 minutes streching.

Although speaking of feature length music videos: Interstella 5555 (new window)

Sabotage. That is all.

Hell yes. I need to go download this now, been ages since I've seen the full version.

1) Copperhead Road by Steve Earle
2) Long Cool Woman in a black dress by the Hollies
3) Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts by Bob Dylan
4) Crusin' by Mike NeSmith
5) Fire on the Mountain by Marshall Tucker
6) A Country Boy can Survive by Hank Williams, Jr.
7) Stacy's Mom has got it going on by Fountains of Wayne

Where is "Smack my Biatch Up"?

Tony Stark 2008-06-20 09:32:55 AM
Wow. That Journey video is unbelievably awe-ful-some

If I had to put together an over the top parody of a 80's music video, I probably couldn't do any better than that

tarkus1980 [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 09:40:10 AM
Ween, "Freedom of '76."

nopokerface [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 09:41:51 AM
Stealers Wheel did one that could be made into a movie about Congress.

The Notorious HIV 2008-06-20 09:42:26 AM
They made a movie based on Closer. It was called "The House on Haunted Hill".

kungfu jesus with a side of lime 2008-06-20 09:44:06 AM
3) Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts by Bob Dylan
This is one I would like to see. Lets get Johnny Depp on board and we have a winner.

malle-herbert 2008-06-20 09:45:03 AM
Movies based on video-clips I would really like to see :

1 Rush - Distant early warning
2 Depeche mode/Linkin park - Enjoy the silence
3 Genesis/Disturbed - Land of confusion
4 Rush - The body electric

That would make for a couple of interesting movies...

CarnySaur 2008-06-20 10:01:49 AM
I was expecting "American Storm" by Bob Seger. It was supposed to look like clips from a nonexistent movie starring James Woods.

mwfte 2008-06-20 10:07:50 AM
I knew 'Just' would be in there. Oddly enough, that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the trailer for The Happening.

Arn_Dee 2008-06-20 10:11:18 AM
Killing Floor, Bruce Dickinson. Would be a wierd movie :)

oryx 2008-06-20 10:20:40 AM
This is bogus. Don't ya think if they had more than 3 minutes worth of ideas for a music video, they would have made a movie out of it?

amindtat 2008-06-20 10:27:58 AM
Best movie based on a song:

Chris Cunningham should make a full-length movie.

Crude 2008-06-20 10:34:37 AM
No Michael Jackson = FAIL.

Billie Jean at the very least.

And any Spike Jonze video could be a movie.

Sabotage by the Beastie Boys FTW.

The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia.

Body moving?

Oh, wait.

Neekoh 2008-06-20 10:44:01 AM
Interstate Love Song by Stone Temple Pilots. It already has a prelude and what not.

idrow 2008-06-20 10:44:57 AM
I had never seen the Closer video before - what they're doing with that monkey is disturbing. Also, it's so NSFW and I had to cut it half way through.

/Listening to Reptile
//Love NIN

Oh, and that list is not complete without Black Hole Sun.

A few of my darker suggestions:

Man's too Strong - Dire Straits
Jackie Brown - Mellencamp
Over Yonder - Steve Earle
Garden of Allah - Don Henley
I am a Town - Mary Chapin Carpenter

Bri_Bri_Gooch 2008-06-20 11:09:37 AM
"Bob Dylan's 115th Dream" would make an awesome surreal movie.

th0th [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 11:12:28 AM
Aphex Twin's Windowlicker. Nothing would be more exciting than seeing 90 minutes of booty-shaking girls with Richard David James' face digitally superimposed. Sort of like the Burly Brawl in Matrix Reloaded, except more freaky.

/Does making everyone in your video look just as weird as you seem a bit narcissistic?
//Good techno but jeez, enough of the Richard

xalres 2008-06-20 11:14:05 AM
I thought the video for greedy fly (pop) was pretty damn intriguing. Disturbed maniac kills an angel and cuts off its wings. Would make a great movie if they could maintain the mood of the video throughout.

I think that's the point of the video, he's making fun of hip hop videos and the blatant narcissism in the music....That video is from 10 years ago, too...nothing has changed.

HeadLever: Man's too Strong - Dire Straits

Hmmmm....

I'm just and ageing drummer boy
And in the wars I used to play
And I've called the tune
To many a torture session
Now they say I am a war criminal
And I'm fading away
Father please hear my confession

That'd be a hell of a western.

xalres 2008-06-20 11:23:09 AM
AN ageing....

stupid no preview.
