Oasis = one of the most overrated bands in the history of modern music.

Much, much FAIL.

Zofryer 2008-06-19 09:05:38 PM
Yeah, Oasis sucks almost as bad as the monkees. I'm sorry. You can just listen to the real beatles. They did a ton of music.

wow, I guess this is already over... I mean they did have a couple of good songs, but I fail to see their relevance at this point

How about Chumbawamba? Are they making a comeback too?

Oasis is a spectacular band, if you ARE NOT from the United States. Also, aren't looking for overly complicated music that makes you want to just do loads of cocaine.

Save for the last album which was brilliant, and for the most part unlike anything they have done before.

/saw Oasis live at Madison Square Garden
//Doesn't do cocaine, or endorse the use

HappyHarryHardOn: I fail to see their relevance at this point

I know they are (were?) huge in Britain and have one of the highest-selling albums there, but I've yet to meet any Brits who like them or have bought their past few albums. I think they appeal to no one outside of the British music press.

not to mention no link on fark involving Oasis seems to go past 20 post; most of which are some variation of "they ripped the Beatles off".

Ace Frehley's Ghost: How about Chumbawamba? Are they making a comeback too?

Absolutely. They got knocked down, but they got up again.

They still exist?

I was asking myself the same thing.

They manage to get a few good songs each time but those songs get run into the ground and the brothers Liam says moronic shiat in the press so the simple pop balladry that they do best is over shadowed.

Glenechocreek 2008-06-20 02:47:10 AM
If I was starting a pop band, I'd want Oasis' PR people. Their music is a snore, and they seem to be from the Amy Winehouse School Of Decorum. The Beatles were writing better songs when they were still in prep school. I just don't understand it.

bingethinker [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 04:24:36 AM
If they ripped off the Beatles, they did a piss-poor job of it.

TheHopeDiamond 2008-06-20 07:39:48 AM
If by "channel" you mean "strive once more to mindlessly ape the depthless power and beauty of The Beatles, only to fail in their standard hacky, cloying, talentless manner", then ok, I agree with the headline.

Fool.

Yet another thread full of people who've never listened to an Oasis album.

OutsiderJ 2008-06-20 09:39:10 AM
Excellent. Loads of comments by tons of people who just don't get British humor, or have actually listened an album outside of the 3 songs they play here in the US. If anyone has ever worked with family maybe they'd understand the bickering between the two brothers.

I DO have to wonder what Oasis albums you people have heard, apart from the singles released years back on What's The Story. Oasis had its rough patch, that sadly lasted through most of the 90's BUT I do have hope after Don't Believe The Truth.

AdolfOliverPanties [TotalFark] 2008-06-20 10:21:16 AM
I have What's The Story and Standing on the Shoulders of Giants in my car CD player right now.

It's harmless pap. Some pleasant tunes, better than a lot of the crap that is out there.

\HUGE fan of The Beatles
\\not bothered by Oasis (neither is Sir Paul)

InmanRoshi 2008-06-20 10:42:44 AM
I'll always have love for Oasis for singing catchy rock songs about drinking and screwing when everyone was singing songs about how their mommy didn't hug them enough while staring down at their shoes on stage in the mid-90's.

InmanRoshi 2008-06-20 10:47:02 AM
Every band is channeling someone (compare Bob Dylan's Roll and Tumble on his critically acclaimed Modern Times with Howlin Wolf's Down In The Bottom .. it's pratically the same song note for note). Why not channel the best?

fo_sho! 2008-06-20 10:54:12 AM
Oasis doesn't sound much like The Beatles at all to me. Except for that crappy "all aroud the world" song.

It's funny, I think the first Oasis album (that didn't sell well in the US) was by far their best effort. Since then it's been a slow slide with the occasional blip.

Definitely Maybe, their first album, is phenomenal. I'm not embarassed to say (despite the grief I get from some of my friends and I'm sure I'll get from some in here) that it's frequently what I have in my car's CD player.

That is a name that I have not heard for a long time.

Though I don't listen to them, they're better than a lot of shiat out there. I just wish they weren't such douches whenever they are interviewed, in public, or just talking in general.

PYROY 2008-06-20 04:29:24 PM
I wish Oasis and Coldplay would have a fight to the death...and somehow they all end up dead in the end.

Actually Roll and Tumble is a blues standard, and Dylans arrangement is remarkably close to Muddy Waters, allthough the words differ, as with most standards and traditionals that Dylan covers. Down in the Bottom follows the same rhythm and melody, most likely because Howling Wolf just rewrote the words to the song and renamed it, which happens quite a bit in blues music.

Awesome, I can't believe I actually encouraged some fans to post... Oasis don't really sound that much like the Beatles, I don't know why people here go on about it. Might it be because each of their albums sells about ten times what Rush's do?

Their most recent album was their best in ten years, and sounds more like the Kinks if you ask me.

"With every song that I write, I compare it to the Beatles. The thing is, they only got there before me. If I'd been born at the same time as John Lennon, I'd have been up there."

What an asshole.

Cause he thinks he writes good songs? If you don't think you're writing good songs, why would you bother? Why compare every song you write to I don't know, Nickelback? It might make you feel better, but won't inspire you to try harder.

akimi 2008-06-24 04:39:44 AM
A lot of people thought Lennon was a smarmy prick when he was a Beatle, and afterwards. Lennon was not a god, he drank and snorted a ton, and acted like a complete asshole sometimes. And he wrote a lot of good songs, as has Gallagher.

I mean, how ironic... you call Gallagher an asshole for comparing himself to Lennon, and people were FURIOUS when Lennon "compared himself" to Jesus. Who was the bigger asshole?
