This thrills me deep in my soul. For I hate coldplay with a fire that will not be quenched.

Good headline.

Personally, I would downplay any similarities between Coldplay's music and my own.

SlothB77 2008-06-19 11:24:10 AM
the two songs sound similar, but not plagiarized similar. just a coincidence.

but he got some publicity for his crappy band, so he wins.

I didn't know you could plagiarize suck.

Watched the video. That guy should let go of some of his paranoia and bitterness. Then he can cross that one off his list.

/He's just trying to be a better person

I have tinnitus too. And not self-inflicted. I've probably made it worse with loud rock music, however.

The verse melody is dead on. I'm not sure if it was necessarily ripped off. Maybe they just had the same shiatty melody knocking around in their heads. Regardless, the public is now aware of TWO annoying songs instead of one.

Radiohead is totally not gay.

/even if they did call their album In Rainbows...

All Day and All Night / Hello, I Love You

Satisfaction / Mr. Soul

He's So Fine / My Sweet Lord (well, this one went to Court)

~~~
By the way, the Santana/Rob Thomas abomination that is SMOOTH is a blatent rip-off this masterpiece:
LOOK OUT !!! (new window)
Well, both songs do suck.
luckybastard 2008-06-19 01:19:30 PM
Why don't they check Martin's passport and see when he entered the U.S.?
They're just looking for notoriety, I'm sure.
Coldplay has been copying U2 for years. I don't see how this is a shock. They suck though. Hollywood had forced the masses to like them or something. Brainwashing of some form or fashion had to be involved. They are the Creed of modern times.
rocinante721: All Day and All Night / Hello, I Love You
Satisfaction / Mr. Soul
He's So Fine / My Sweet Lord (well, this one went to Court)
Run Through the Jungle / Old Man Down the Road (also went to court)
Uzzah 2008-06-19 03:05:11 PM
rocinante721: All Day and All Night / Hello, I Love You
Hell, the Kinks ripped themselves off -- "Destroyer" has the exactly the same melody as "All Day and All of the Night."
While we're on the subject, the chorus for "Catch Me Now I'm Falling" snakes the Stones' "Jumpin' Jack Flash" riff (which, I'm sure, was itself stolen from some semi-literate '40s bluesman).
/still a Kinkophile
Ace Frehley's Ghost: Run Through the Jungle / Old Man Down the Road (also went to court)
Yeah! Even the court thought that was ridiculous.
Sanz Can't Danz (but he take yer money)
waddya bet if coldplay wasn't famous, we wouldn't be hearing about this.
for ex. i've never heard of a locally-famous / nationally obscure bar or indie band
accuse another locally-famous / nationally obscure bar or indie band of plagiarism.
i'll add another one to teh pile, tho...
a few guitar riffs off of the "Lateralus" album by Tool sound similar to a few guitar riffs off of "Discipline" by King Crimson.
Tool has always done riffs that are a pale imitation of the Crimson style. They basically reduced it to a series of "plunka plunka" notes in 7/4 time repeated for 8 minutes.
They INSIST upon themselves, Lois. They insist upon themselves.
MCM 2008-06-19 04:10:33 PM
I know a ton of bands from the late 80's, early 90's ripped off Cheap Trick, but the main guitar riff here is one of the more blatant ones IMHO
Poison - Talk Dirty To Me
Cheap Trick - She's Tight
That's coldplay? I thought that was U2. No shiat. Weird. Oh well, at least those guys got a little free publicity for their not so bad tune.
They also mention Lola in the song, so I think ripping themselves off might have been the point of it. Somehow.
Coldplay plagiarizes Coldplay. what else is new?
danduran 2008-06-19 07:51:46 PM
Has anyone actually listened to the tracks, or taken Subby's assertion at face value? The verses are similar, but only in the rhythm of the melody - the notes are all different. The chord progression is similar, but that counts for nothing. The choruses are entirely different. It's a similar vibe, but nothing else.
That, and the guy is lying through his teeth when he says Chris Martin came and saw his shiat band.
This.
And it's not like the rhythm is very inspired or unique either. Anyone could have thought it up.
