I can see the neighbor's point. People who own ATVs and ride them in their local area are likely to be responsible, if only so they don't get a reputation as the local dickhead.

People who rent them in a place they're unlikely to go again? More likely not to care what they damage or where they go/

We had a guy in the area where I live that did a very similar thing. He wanted to open a bar but the city wouldn't issue him a liquor license. He opened an 18+ 'juice' bar with fully nude dancers instead.

About 6 months later he applied for a liquor license for another piece of property he owned where he was trying again to open a bar...again the city denied his license. He said 'this would be a great place for an adult book store.' Suddenly he had his liquor license.

I hate idea that Business need to approval of city council to operate a business. if the area is zoned commerical then they should be forced to issue business licenses to any conforming use of the property. When as a country did we become okay with the local self-important assets on our city councils being able to exercise powers that would illegal for the federal or state government to have?

apparently "don't shop there" was too difficult of a concept. so instead they run to government to halt the business.

That's nothing... the laws I don't get and hate are those that forces someone to get a permit or get approval to build or fix something on your own property.

My example... I can buy a pre-fab shed of any size for my backyard, no problem. If I want to buy wood and build it myself, I have to get a permit and approval.

I agree, the vinyl banner, with red field and white block lttering, is not very creative, and is probably in poor taste. IMO, temporary banners mounted with ropes are always in poor taste.

Something in a nice blue neon, properly mounted, and preferably with a nice custom font and color scheme, would have been much more tasteful.

As funny as this is, ATVs driven by locals are oftentimes bad enough. But ATVs driven by people that need to rent? Yikes. Unless there's a big public park (that welcomes ATVs) nearby, that is a private property disaster waiting to happen.

I just came back from some R&R in Allenspark.

tbn0.google.com

The place is an oasis of tranquility. About 20 houses, including an old log-house lodge (Allenspark Lodge)

tbn0.google.com

a strangely misplaced 5 start restaurant (the Fawnbrook Inn)

tbn0.google.com

a hummingbird sanctuary

tbn0.google.com

a natural spring where people come and fill their water bottles

tbn0.google.com

The highway through town sees maybe 10 cars per hour.

Is this the kind of place where you'd like to see an ATV rental business?
