Spend a long time coming up with that headline, Subby?

Bonkthat_Again [TotalFark] 2008-06-18 10:00:44 AM
"Commissioner Carlton Moore said the event producers should aim for "family and mature adults."

In other words: A Bingo crowd.

I'm 34 and I like Metallica (Pre-Load) and Incubus. Does that mean I'm not "mature".

Seriously, our generation will have to wade in the preferences of the Baby Boomers until they die or are locked up in nursing homes.
...another 15-20 years.

Eliminate jazz from American culture?! Between most of the rock artists I like being older and the media's hatred for jazz its looking more and more like I will outlive every band I like.

Don't count on watching Ozzy Osbourne bite the head off a bat at the proposed Live Nation music festival on Fort Lauderdale beach next year.

Hey Brittany Wallman, here's a great big Fark You for that one.

"We're doing everything we can to eliminate jazz from American culture, so no jazz!" Mike Luba of Live Nation Artists told commissioners

Here's a big Fark You as well Mikey. Jazz is American as apple pie dumbass. Your peon concert won't do anything to change that.

What's wrong with jazz? Smooth jazz is an abomination, but you can't condemn a whole genre because some people are making elevator music.

I hate them both, but I would rather be surrounded by Streisand fans than Metallica fans.

If we can somehow just get them both to play at the same time!

PATS0707: If we can somehow just get them both to play at the same time!

That may be cataclysmic. Ooooo! have them perform a song together! I'm sure Streisand could sing Enter Sandman pretty well....

Hell, every 12 year old boy who thinks they're cool can.

While not a big jazz fan, I have a great deal of respect for the music and Mike Luba is a real douche bag. That is why mainstream music has gone in the crapper, people like Mike Luba with overblown senses of self importance trying to dismiss a form of music that is engrained in American culture. Basically like those FARKers who claim that all music except what they like sucks expcept with the power to screw things up.

I feel a kinship with jazz fans on this because heavy metal has found the same fate with many in the mainstream music media. Although Live Nation promotes a lot of heavy metal concerts so I guess they don't want to kill the golden goose, yet.

What happened to music promoters who brought the fans what they wanted instead of telling them what they want?

Hey, buddy, Brittany Wallman's a good reporter and a nice lady.

Here's a big Fark You as well Mikey.

This, I can get behind. Ft. L is in for a big surprise if they think they can get Babs or the Stones to play a free (hahahahaha) show on the beach (hahahahaha).

The Boomers aren't going to go. They want to go out to Hard Rock.

If you've got Huey Lewis and the News or Gerry and the Pacemakers or someone like that, nobody's going to go. Best shot you've got at getting people there is to go younger and younger and younger, and get local bands in on it to make up the bill.

AT BEST you might be able to swing Local-Boys-Make-Good New Found Glory.

Having it ON the beach is probably the worst idea I can possibly think of. Terrible, terrible idea.

No. The fact that you're an active user on Fark, however....

This might just be the most asinine statement I have ever heard from someone in the music business. I honestly though he had to be joking at first. I can see him not liking jazz, or not specializing in booking jazz, but to profess that you want "to eliminate jazz from American culture" demonstrates such a complete lack of understanding of music, culture, history, or even America. Oh well, enjoy your non-event Ft. Lauderdale....

Mr. Douchetard jazz hater can bite my shiny white hiney.

While I myself am not a huge fan of jazz, I love SOME of it very much.

Even if you believe that, why would you (as a promoter) say that in public? That would be like Obama admitting that he really doesn't like Latinos or Farkers admitting that Ron Paul really does spend too much time with Nazis.

As a fan of jazz and metal, I find this article to be full of unrepentant douchebaggery and they can all EABOD/DIAF (whichever they prefer).

As for the smooth jazz haters, try this album out for size and tell me it sucks:

Yeah, a lot of smooth jazz is fairly mindless pap, but I tend to find it more enjoyable than most stuff on the radio these days.

OOH! Metallica thread!!!

(just to get it out of the way for everyone else)
1) Everything after Puppets sucks
2) Lars is a tool
3) Napster rules!
4) I'm going to download their new album and give it to all my friends.
5) Metallica hasn't been 'relevant' since the 80s
6) The only person with musical talent in Metallica died in 1986
7) Megadeth rules!

Have I covered them all?

/ancker

To get Babes would cost in the millions,

To get the stones it would cost just under it.

But both would also want 100% of the gate.

Eat_At_Milliways: Hey, buddy, Brittany Wallman's a good reporter and a nice lady.

Be that as it may, I get tired of people bringing up that incident. It's as if Ozzy hasn't done anything else in the last 27 years.

"I am not looking for a return of Spring Break," Moore said. "I am not looking for an event that would bring that type of user to the beach."

Of course you're not. You idiots wiped out any semblance of the Ft. Lauderdale strip that I grew up with. The entire area has been given a giant Valium and sucks ass now. Thanks.
