this is actually a couple years old.

the time he pushes some dancing asshole off the stage is better.

"this is my farkin stage."

keylock71 2008-06-17 09:54:03 AM
Pointing out an asshole isn't necessarily a bad thing....but going on and on and on about it for 5 minutes instead of playing another song is.

I've seen QotSA 3 times and IIRC he did something similar and one of those shows. Why would you throw shiat at a band you paid money to see? If you're not enjoying the show, leave. These guys are just trying to rock. And let me tell you, Homme don't need no instructions to know how to rock!

keep in mind tho, that 15 year old boys will go to these shows and 15 yeat old boys can be stupid like that...
But jeez, Josh could grow some balls and take it in stride, instead of whining like a dick, I mean its going to happen over and over and over again....

and BTW, the more he acts like that, the more people are going to want to do it JUST BECAUSE he acts like that

I saw Zappa walk off stage less than 10 minutes into a concert when a beer bottle flew by his face. He did not return. I was severely disappointed, but I did not blame him.

On the way to my car I noticed a group of individuals standing in a circle around someone lying on the ground. They appeared to be explaining his error to him.

Josh, don't whine. Just leave.

I'll agree that he did go on for too long. But he did mention he was trying to work with 102 degree fever and after have throwing up for 3 days. I'd be a little short tempered as well.

I have a gold stratocaster signed by TQOTSA. It's not a bad little guitar for a Squire. It's a pity Fender didn't give them a real strat to sign, though.

QFT. Usually he just brushes them off with an insult, but everyone has a boiling point. A similar, but obviously less eventful happened when I saw them live last month.

HillbillyCletus 2008-06-17 11:35:03 AM
He just biatched for a couple minutes, threw the kids out, and got back to rocking. That's better than leaving the stage and screwing everyone out of a show.

I met him and the rest of the Queens after a show a year or so ago. They are the nicest and coolest band ever. The show was amazing, they were totally hammered, and they had a guy who just stood by the bus all night waiting for fans to bring drugs for the band.

They are Rock and Roll.

Dude let Will Ferrell don the Gene Frenkel wig and play cowbell with QOTSA on SNL a few years ago.

The audience loved it and no dobut focused on Ferrell the whole time. Homme let a mega famous comedian take the spotlight from his band on national television, all for a laugh.

I think he has a damned good sense of humor and obviously doesn't take himself too seriously.

Thumbs up.

Also keep in mind it was at a festival type show. The person may not have liked QOTSA but loved everyone else. Imagine a line up like this:

Metallica
Down
Exodus
My Chemical Romance

Can you expect My Chemcial Romance to not get booed and crap thrown at them?

For some reason this comes to mind:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSiAjnPIvPM

Kid's a little asshole for throwing crap at the stage. But the whole "I'll kick your farkin' ass" thing grates on my nerves to know end. If your threatening to kick so guys ass, do it. Don't just throw some shiat at him and let your security haul him off. If you can't risk getting into a fight, then don't call him out.

AdolfOliverPanties [TotalFark] 2008-06-17 11:46:07 AM
Or let the guy come onstage and then do a Dave Mustaine vulcan neck pinch on him.

flecsrogar 2008-06-17 11:50:44 AM
Or do like Greg from Bad Religion and invite him on stage and make fun of him, then toss him to security

El Chode [TotalFark] 2008-06-17 11:52:11 AM
That's funny, because I saw them back before Nick left the band and they went down hill. Security guards gave a fan a rough time and he jumped off stage, pulled the fan from the guards, and told the guards to basically fark off.

or do like marty balin at altamont and dive into a crowd of hells angels that were roughing up hippies. THATS badass. even if he was defending hippies.

When you're on stage, it's not funny to see shiat coming flying at your head. Is that hard to understand, subby? How'd you like it if I came down to the alley where you work and kept lobbing bottles at you while you're on your knees trying to make another five bucks?

ah ah , LOL

Maybe I'm old school, but i remember bands getting SPIT ON for the entire gig, and they played their gig without whining, you know?

When I read stuff like Rollins "Get in the Van" I like to reminisce about the good ol days when rockers had a little more hair on their chest than that

/and I agree with THE _LOAF if you are going to threaten someone from a barricade of bouncers, you are just talking shiat

I am not subby, but I would surmise they have a pimp who would stop you from throwing a bottle at them at whatever cost.

The problem here is that no one around the person (who threw the bottle) kicks their ass. If an angry mob did kick the taunters ass, no one would throw anything. See the previous Zappa story above me.

puckhead 2008-06-17 01:14:05 PM
marginally related anecdote:

I was at a Pearl Jam show many, many moons ago (1991 maybe?) at a pretty small venue, and some moron threw a pop can that hit Stone Gossard's guitar (It was an all-ages show, so there were a lot of 15 year old morons there). Stone said basically "Screw you guys, I'm going home". the rest of the band paused for a second, then started the next song without him. His pout lasted about a minute before he rejoined the band.

I understand it. I also understand that , GOD FORBID, being a rock star comes with a few downsides.. such as dumb 15 years old.. but Christ , he could take in stride a little bit... Like I said above, I like my rockers to have a little more chest hairs on their chest. If Henry Rollins would have pulled a precious thing like that at a Black Flag gig, he would have it coming and hiding being a wall of security was not an option

Douche it up bags. Just because someone's a "rocker" doesn't mean they're a zen master or super being able to easily brush off the acts of asshats. He's a farking human being, feeling under the weather as he explained, that tends to make someone a bit more on edge than usual. Considering the legal implications of an adult beating the snot out of a teenager, giving him a good verbal assault is about all he can do.

Also, HOW the hell can you compare Josh Homme to a hardcore punk? Henry Rollins, in the days of Black Flag, would have most likely provoked such an act and commenced the beat-down directly thereafter.

Sorry, after seeing that video a few posts above I take everything back. I was trying to make a point about the pussification of rock stars, when it is just simply clear that the guy is a flaming arsehole with homophobic issues

But when he ends up in THE HOSPITAL FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, like it happened to FRANK ZAPPA when someone in the audience beated the crap out of him, I ll hand Josh a tissue

Not even close. I've seen QOTSA on 3 separate occasions, and not once did Josh lose his shiat over audience behavior. I agree that these incidents seem to happen more frequently at Queens gigs than others, but I think that has more to do with the fact that Josh Homme is more willing to call out the so-called "fans" who act like dicks than other frontmen. I won't deny that the style of music played by QOTSA can attract aggro retards, either.

But to those who are calling Homme a pussy or a fag for not just kicking the douchebag's ass himself, think about the liability issues that come into play with respect to the owners of the concert venue, as well as the promoters. Just think about the lawsuits that would inevitably be filed, and regardless of whether they're succesful or not that could be very damaging to fight out in court.

Personally, I think crowds should police themselves, and if some punk wants to look hard by throwing shiat at the band, the people nearby should be the ones handing out the beatdown.

As far as Homme goes, I liked his response in this instance, but I like the one on Queens' live album better, where he basically gets the house lights turned on, points the cocksmoker out to the rest of the crowd, and tells him "now it's not just me who knows you're an asshole, it's everybody". Hopefully the guy got tuned no too long after that.

Yeah, he should totally wait until things get out of hand and he is seriously injured before telling supposed "fans" to stop acting like uncivilized trash.

Give me a break.

You ever seen an interview with him? The combination of drug use and Johns' unflinching stupidity meant he probably didn't even notice.
