I believe there's a restriction on how much douche one vehicle can contain, so of course super stretches are out.

I'm Farking around at my job as a limo company dispatcher, so, natch, I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

Nice work, submitter.

It's about farking time, they've always been illegal, and, for many, death trap doesn't come close.

/LMAO at the notion of a legitimate limo company

Dangerous.
Unsafe.
But I don't see any mention of accidents or injuries.

Government officials have noticed something that looks unusual and excessive, and they have no control over it. There must be something wrong here.

They can't stand seeing these things rolling around with their having no say in the matter. It must be regulated, inspected, taxed. For the common good and public safety.

They will not be denied.

I don't need to imagine it, I watched the Top Gear episode.

Yeah, when the wheel fell off while May was driving I lost it, one of the funniest moments in Top Gear. The other I can think of offhand was when they tried crossing the channel in home-made amphibious cars, and Hammond had the ridiculous grin on his face while trying to ignore all the smoke in his car.

I love how they called these ridiculously large limos "American-style". Pretty much says it all.

It's not a matter of safety, it's a matter of regulation. They're okay with vehicles classed as cars that can carry 8 people, but not more. That means they would also ban most vans used by mexican work crews.

Seats 10-12, depending on how small they are or friendly with each other.

THAT, is exactly why they have to look hard at what can be on the streets.

Considering they were able to get THAT on the the streets (I think they had to do something to make one of them street legal but they all WERE legal)shows the problem.

Watching that episode it was amazing they all made it, yet they all had massive problems with the roads, since unlike the US the roads are not designed to handle anything that large.

wildcardjack: Seats 10-12, depending on how small they are or friendly with each other.

I've been in one that probably had 20 people in it, of course it was for a short drive on uncrowded slow streets so it wasn't that idiotic.

The Numbers 2008-06-16 03:53:26 AM
When a human faces a hazard whilst driving and has to react in a purely instinctive fashion, the most common action is to pull up on the steering wheel with the dominant hand (and brake, obviously). Since more people are right-handed, cars will tend to swerve left in these situations. When driving on the left, this puts you in a hedge but when driving on the right this puts you in the path of oncoming traffic.

/Driving on the left FTW.

GalFisk 2008-06-16 04:14:24 AM
The Numbers, I've heard the exact opposite, as an argument for how left-handed people live shorter on average than right-handed.
/left-handed

FTA: "In August last year, a Bradford businessman, Muhammad Saleem Nawaz, was fined £14,200 and given 31 points on his licence."

Thats particularly impressive considering you only require 12 points to lose your license.

/Speeding usually nets you 3 points
//Dangerous driving is 6 to 9

Hah, just like a goverment to be lazy about things and go after the easy to catch offenders FIRST and then go after the ones that actually require investment into the investigative process. They probably intend to pay for the investigation of the latter with the blood of the former.

"Those caught face heavy fines. In August last year, a Bradford businessman, Muhammad Saleem Nawaz, was fined £14,200 and given 31 points on his licence."

That's a lot of points. Most serious motoring offences result in 3-10 points on the licence. Assuming he's even able to drive, his insurance is probably close to 5 figures.

May's only problem was that he got lost.

ssrat 2008-06-16 03:10:01 PM
What do you mean he got lost? I mean he has lived there for years of course he knows the roads, they just are not where he put them last.

If I remember right the "front" steering wheel fell off again so they had to switch.

Still can't understand HOW they got the celebrities to agree to do this on an awards night, ESPECIALLY since this is not the first challenge they have ever done.

If I get a call saying that Top gear wants to drive me to the awards show I would run like hell, since you know something is up.
