Looks like the NG is going to have to do what the Seals do.

If you want to impersonate someone with a uniform, impersonate a cop. They are corrupt, authoritarian poltroons, so that's no problem.

Title: Wow

Hi this is Brandon Adams, and this seems to be the only way to clear my name. See if i was impersonating a soldier i would be in Fort Leavenworth as of now by US Marshalls. I did get taken into custody but problem is being the reason they just didn't know who i was. They CRPD Slammed my name as a hero. Then bring me down being the National Guard didn't find my papers. It's all over, i wish to reply as if everyone cannot slam my name. For example, if you look at the gazette paper from Friday. You see me on 3A saving a victim from the area. With a fire fighter Brent Smith. I wish people would understand the military messes up. I got my sorries out of it. Now i'd wish people wouldn't call me scum. I've served my country now for over 6 years. Iraqi operation freedom veteran and numerous operation. The national guard doesnt know Army Reservist actions or policies nor regulations apon our soldiers. This is all over me dropping a soldier that was sleeping on a ****** and i wasnt his acting NCO. Sorry mam's and sir's but in my book. I dont want civilians watching a person that's representing the US Army by sleeping next to a ****** at a checkpoint. Then that soldier came back and cried. So here iam a free man? any questions?"

I used to be in the army reserves and I think half of the guys that showed up for drill should have been arrested for "attempting to impersonate a soldier"

The bill on their lid (lid = civilian for hat) was folded in a an upside down V, their BDU's look like they were just fished out of the bottom of the dirty laundry bin, shirt buttoned halfway, hands in pockets, 2 day old beard, they constantly had a cig in the corner of their lips, even in formation...

I watched Rambo and thought those guardsmen looked pretty clean cut and put together compared to who I saw 1 weekend a month..

So I am wondering how do you spot "someone who is slightly out of uniform" when most of the people are. I am thinking instead of the U.S. Flag, he had a Hello Kitty emblem or something outrageous like that, otherwise it would be pretty darn hard to tell...

/and for the record, I was a college student, usually hungover at drill and I still managed to show up looking ok..

Haha sure. My godfather (70 years old now) was a SEAL before they were named that (BUDS program/underwater demolitions). He's the most badass mother farker I know and has the scars and stories to prove it.

Why does that last bit send my B.S. detector clanging away? I mean, besides the questionable writing skills of this guy?

Wow, what a horrible journalist. The writer never even mentions what the man did to impersonate "a National Guard member". Except that "an Iowa National Guard soldier saw him dressed in a uniform that did not meet Army specifications".

Is someone standing in a flood-zone wearing camouflage automatically arresting or do you need to do something else?

What the hell are you talking about? Have you not seen an Army uniform since, like, 2004? The guy in the picture is clearly wearing ACU's. If you mean that it looks like MARPAT in that it's digital, then yes, it looks like MARPAT. The only reason it looks darker than usual is the fact that it's wet.

Here's the story as it appears on the Cedar Rapids Gazette site. And some occasionally interesting comments, including many from Brandon. Seemingly he's a sergeant in the reserve who was not assigned to be downtown but jumped into his uniform to "help out".

Definitely a wet ACU. I can't see what else would be wrong about him in that picture. The vest blocks out every other patch that we could see. I can't recognized what is on his right arm.

I wish there was more to this story because it seems like there could a mix up with the Army.

It would be easy to buy a uniform for nefarious purposes by ordering from rangerjoes.com, or the like. I saw some loser slob in Costco wearing ACU pants and top with tennis shoes. Top was unziped with some black t-shirt. He was listening to an ipod, and was about 50lbs heavier than allowed, so I know it can be done.

Being a former National Guardsmen I'm wondering how that is actually a criminal charge. Guardsmen have no arrest authority so he can't be charged with impersonating a police official. Entering a flooded area can't be described as trespassing. Certainly wearing camouflage isn't a crime. Wearing military insignia on camouflage also isn't a crime, lest we start arresting vets.

So unless there is some specific law on the books regarding this the guy there isn't much that can be done.

/Don't know if that quoted post was him or not but we do have a Reserve MP detachment here in Davenport.
//Also don't know if he was activated for this since the Gov. doesn't have control over the reserves
///Local Guardsmen activated for a third time to Iraq a few weeks ago

yes there is the stolen valor act. Also it couldve been a military arrest which would have been in order too for uniform infractions, plus he probably wasnt on orders. I don't think reservist do this type of thing, it usually left upto NG, they go on title 32. My hats off to him for helping out and squaring a soldier away, most likely he did it for free. However if he wanted to help he should have contacted his unit or a local national guard armory, they would've hooked him. I never had to worry about any of that, my unit would just call me up. I worked 2 tornados and worked katrina relief.

SgtArkie 2008-06-16 01:06:48 AM
oh,ok I finally read the article the police arrested him, my guess is the NG probably found out he wasnt a soldier or there wouldnt be an arrest.
Found a "SPC" brandon adams 366th mp co, probably stillwater Oklahoma In AKO. what hell was he doing in Iowa, then again he couldve been a local and drilled in stillwater. The police probably did release him but I am sure the Army will have a word with him.
