In an article in Cuba's communist youth newspaper, Juventud Rebelde, the 14-year old Gonzalez said he would never let ex-President Fidel Castro and his brother Raul Castro down. He joined more than 18-thousand others who joined the group on Saturday.

Almost lol-worthy. But the possibility that lack of Freedom of Speech/Association played a part in this is cutting into my lol.

If he'd stayed here, and joined the Communist Party, THAT would have been funny.

The kid got washed up in our country, stayed with family and we pointed a gun in his face and shipped him back to freakin Cuba, where he was trying to escape from to begin with. I'm not surprised hes a commie now. To tell you the truth if I were him id probably do the same. America was not kind to him.

I suppose that was better than getting shot in the head. Elian Gonzales tho, he was forced into the commie cargo cult at gunpoint by US soldiers.

And we used to be such a NICE country too....

Catran 2008-06-15 04:13:43 PM
I remember when he was in the United States, his family had him wearing a t-shirt with American flag on it and using a cell phone. When the press just happened to stop by their house to film him playing in the family front yard.

Oh, the irony makes me laugh. Viva la Propaganda!

Cause he should be right here in america, where he could have the freedom to be deported for being an "illegal" immigrant.

Probably not as weird as Brownies. They had us all dancing in a ring with joined hands around a toadstool with an owl on top. Then we had to sell lame ass sandwich cookies that came in two exciting flavours of vanilla or chocolate, the kind of cookies old people let get stale and then dunk in their tea. This was Canadian Brownies, mind you. As far as I can tell, it was some pagan goddess biscuit racket.

Girl Scouts got those kick ass mint cookies.

Because everyone knew it was coming, it was just a matter of time, and so they wanted to make sure the incident was documented?

Just a guess...

We didn't send him back there because he was Cuban or because our government hates 'commies' or whatever, it was a custody battle between his father and his dead mother's family and he was sent back to Cuba to live with his sole remaining parent, which was the right thing to do.

Spare me the bullshiat about us forcing him back. His dad wanted him back and the US had to oblige. He wasn't escaping shiat. His mom was. Betcha if his dad died and his mom wanted him back we would have had him home to Cuba in a few days.

Actually in Cuba you do have a choice whether or not to join the Young Communist Union.

THIS. And even if you decide there is a case, his father is still the far better choice than the pack of drunks and crazies he was with in Miami.

This was only an issue because the psycho Cuban "exile" community in Miami saw an opportunity to make political points. They didn't give two shiats about the kid at all. The raid to get him the hell out of there was unfortunate, but it didn't need to happen.

christuckeruf 2008-06-15 04:27:59 PM
America gave Castro a huge political victory all while disenfranchising a large population of anti-communistic Cuban exiles living in south Florida.
During the 2000 presidential race, Bush should have phoned Clinton to thank him profusely for basically bestowing the Presidency to him. Florida was won by only a few hundred votes which I'm sure was cast by many pissed of Floridians.

/Yes, I know they were probably politically active Republicans anyway.
//Yes, I know Broward and Dade were overwhelming Gore counties.
///Still, it was still big doo-doo in S.Florida during those elections

That has never been true without papers. We'd be a nation of 1 billion if it were.

He was too young to be "trying to escape." That decision was being made for him. We have no idea what he wanted.

Yeah it's the right thing to do to ship a kid to be with his father and live in poverty in a communist country run by a dictator?! Are you kidding me? You must be joking.

Obviously his mother decided it was worth risking their lives to leave the country. Things couldnt have been that great. HIs father didnt join her for a reason and now look, hes a freakin commie.
