FTFA: "I'll admit to you that it's tough, it's tough in some respects". McCain said America needed to be "more humble, more inclusive."

Whatever the motivation, I think he's right. We shouldn't mock him for being honest.

(but still not voting for him)

And that's also not even close to what she said. If you guys don't mind having a first lady who hates the country then by all means vote for Obama. But you are really reaching on this comparison.

in the interest of you maintaining your appearance of being independent.

There isn't a server big enough to hold them all. No one needs to keep a list anyway, because the stuff just keeps pouring out of their mouths.

This guy is an asshole, but I PREDICT HE WILL BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT. Obama just can't get elected- he's TOO NICE! McCain actually runs on the agenda of keeping us in war FOREVER! What is it about politics that is so macho that the people employed therein think it's OK to reject criticism? Anyone remember Kung-Fu-Tsu? For the sake of the Christ King, listen to the people and rule (or run the country) with a compassionate heart! Am I wrong or just trolling here?

Can John McCain get a free ride all they way to the White house? This needs some coverage. I understand what he's saying and I understood Michelle Obama as well, which will get more coverage and political points? I'm 40 years old and have been really proud of my country twice, once in the days immediately following 9/11 and when Barak Obama became a real contender. What am I missing in the past 40 years?

It was a good answer. It's just kind of funny that BOTH sides are immune to certain types of criticism, for what often appears on closer inspection to be no good reason. If a Democrat said it, it'd be a scandal. But questioning a Republican's patriotism just isn't done in polite society in the media.

McCain: "It's tough in some respects, and I couldn't do it if I didn't passionately believe it was the right thing to do. You know, I have so many opportunities from this country, I just don't want to see us fall backwards. You know, this is very personal for me. It's not just political, it's not just public. I see what's happening, and we have to reverse it."

Honestly, though, not being especially proud of America's an excellent reaction to have. It means you're not going to delude yourself into thinking that America is the greatest country on Earth still, and you'll be ready to tackle the many genuine problems the country has. Numerous, massive, crushing problems.

You will see mcbomb answer many questions without understanding them throughout this campaign. I only pray the American people are paying attention to how stupid this man really is. You can be a war hero and an idiot at the same time and here is your proof of that. mcbomb is an extension of the bush administrations failed policies and we are in grave danger if he is elected. mcbomb is an idiot and an old one at that. (capitals ommitted purposely when describing the small minded)

No, President Bush hasn't admitted to lying yet but there is a mountain of evidence that he has, if you'd like to read up on it.

Of course, a guy who chooses the handle "whitehouse4whites would probably feel a lot more comfortable at Stormfront, where the real haters live.

Why don't you consider a nice retirement there or alternately...

Bush never said he lied about WMDs. There is no librul on the planet who says Bush said he lied about WMDs. What them dam 'merican hatin' libruls did was point out that Bush said there were WMDs, and there were no WMDs.

Now, show me a time where Obama's wife said she hates America?

Oh, you can't? Well then I guess you fail.

It looks like the perfect response to Rush and Co's outrage over Obama's wife saying that she was proud of the country.

This is just as bad and can be spun just the same out of context.

Of course Rush and Co will be busy putting their foot in their mouths trying to spin this some other way and still manage to give make the liberals look right.

no we have a bipartisan Senate intelligence report that was stalled and kept hidden for years by Bush's lackey Pat Roberts that says he lied.

and McCain is just as guilty of hating America as Michelle Obama if you apply the same tortured logic you people used on her.

face it this was supposed to be an alley oop pass for him to slam dunk and he totally blew it. it was meant to mock Michelle and ended up trapping him in the same logic pit they've been trying to throw her in.

instant karma is a biatch

I doubt it'll even get that far. It'll float around some far left blogs for a couple days, then get mentioned once or twice in jest later on, but the mainstream media (you know, the Librul one...) won't pursue it.

By what criteria do you wish this ranking to be made?

Quality of life?
Longevity?
Infant mortality rate?
Crime? Violent crime?
Freedom from unfair prosecution?
Universal health care?
Being liked by the rest of the world?

Because, in all of those categories, I'm going to have to say the US isn't number 1.

And I love this country, but contrary to popular belief, love doesn't mean you never have to say you're sorry.

What a tendentious headline. Let's reverse the meaning of it:

'John McCain - "It's not hard" to be proud of the United States of America. Watch out, John, you're starting to sound like a war crimes apologist'

-or, let's change to Obama:

'Barack Obama - "It's tough in some respects" to be proud of the United States of America. We all now that, Barack, and you're going to put the Bush criminalities to rest. Go Obama!'

-or

'Barack Obama - "It's not hard" to be proud of the United States of America. Thanks, Obama, for pointing out the things that still make us proud!'

If you can construct a statement and its opposite and they look equally good, chances are you're deep into propagandaland.

Sometimes it is tough. One learns to love the United States the way that adults love their parents, rather than the way that children do. With your eyes open to their faults and shortcomings, rather than a simple naive devotionalism. Good on Senator McCain. Its good to know that he chose the best way, rather than the easy way, to answer this question.
