That must have scared the crap out of people in boats out in Zack's bay.

I think those guys would've gotten out of there when the lightning started--it was pretty crazy.

Anyway, I spelled lightning wrong. I knew it didn't look right.

I live a couple of miles from there, and the light show was pretty crazy tonite. Cool stuff.

Glad nobody got hurt.

submitter: apparently God really doesn't like R.E.M

This should come as no surprise. After all, they were "losing" their religion.

The really shouldn't play concerts in lowlands, timberlands, badlands or birdlands.

If they could stay in safe places, they wouldn't see lightning one.

The = they

There's a few people that still remember the riot in Tampa when Led Zeppelin walked off after three songs when the lightning got scary.

Aaaand this is why I wasn't an idiot and chose to see them at MSG instead of Jones Beach.

/only really there for The National anyway
//Mr. November = possibly the best live song ever

You know who else really doesn't like REM?

I was at the show, I would have taken that lightning bolt instead of hearing another Modest Mouse song

I left after the most awesome concert effect EVAR

I saw REM last week in Toronto and they were absolutely great.
Modest Mouse were terrific, sadly missed the National.

Same, but I thought they sucked.

They've sucked Live since Bill left.

If you want to see Peter play go see the minus five.

I know it's been said a million times... but CAN LOCAL NEWS SITES PUT THE NAME OF THEIR FARKING CITY IN THE MASTHEAD SOMEWHERE PLEASE???? It's farking impossible to know what city these stories are coming from most of the time unless you happen to know the local affiliate.

This is the farking intartubes... people from outside your town sometimes see your tubesite.

Someone please take care of this.

Good tip. I've seen M5 a couple times since McCaughey moved to Portland, and while it's really cool to be literally standing next to Peter Buck while he's playing (and cool to chat with him after the show - he's really approachable) it's just not the same as an R.E.M. show.

r.r.m. killed it saturday night with have you ever see the rain, so central rain, these days opener. so great. i thought modest mouse was pretty damn good saturday too - much better live than on album, in my opinion. also in my opinion: the national is the suckiest suck to ever suck. sooooooooo boring.

Lightning strikes Jones Beach? Not the first time. I was there in 1985 when lightning stuck behind the stage at a Frank Zappa show.

Frank stops and says, "I guess god really doesn't like that song huh?"

Jones Beach is one of the most famous beaches in the world. it is on Long Island.
Also, if you had a hard time figuring out where the article was from, perhaps the giant "explore Long Island" box on the right, or the "Latest news: Long Island" on the left would provide a small clue.
